They left a voicemail they pretended to be AGL but long pause lots of back ground noise. People playing video game in background. Said they were calling as they had a call out to attach an account to an old address I lived in over 8 years ago. But my number was the contact on the account.
They gave the street address but not the unit number

Assuming a scam call - same thing happened to me. A female left a voicemail about cancelling an AGL account at my previous home address (from over six years ago). I was never listed on our electricity account back then so it must be a scam

I have been called from (02) 5740 8225, texted and called from 0430 613 699 and emailed from vacantsiteinvestigations @ agl.com.au about the electricity OR gas supply at the property I currently live at, and been requested to contact 1300 949 462 each time - in general, it has been more about the gas supply. We have never had an AGL account, don't intend to ever have an AGL account (especially after this), and get our electricity from a different supplier (at least we have been paying the other provider for it). We do not use gas at all, and already have a gas disconnection notice from Jemena. I am not convinced this is not a scam. I would check directly with AGL instead, and also check if your real estate has given away your personal information.

I received an email claiming to be from AGL, but I wasn’t sure what it was about. I replied to the email, and then yesterday (Tuesday, 16/09/2025) I received a call at around 4:37 pm. I was driving at the time and couldn’t hear properly, so I asked the lady to call me back in 20 minutes, but she never did.

This morning I tried to return the call. After waiting on hold with just music playing, the line eventually played a recorded message saying, “AGL credit team cannot pick up your phone now.”

Because of the strange email, the missed call-back, and the odd phone experience, I believe this may have been a scam attempt rather than a genuine AGL contact.
