they are debt collectors, citi give them the scraps and uncollectables of their accounts, usually many years old. If you know you owe debt (not necessarily just with citi), this is a good chance to negotiate a really good deal with them as this is the stuff that citi have literally written off so anything they get back is a bonus. start your negotiations with them at 15 cents in the dollar, go no higher than 0.35 and get that default off your credit file!!!

Indian collections for Citi - if they have been sold your debt by Citibank - you're laughing - no need to pay it - they havent got a leg to stand on because your debt was with citi not them - don't give them any info, don't take the call and eventually they will move on to the next list of debtors that citi sells them - just block the number and move on with your life minus the citi debt.

They are the scum of the earth Indian debt collectors. If you have not signed a contract with them, you DO NOT Have to deal with them. If they bought your debt, say "thank you, I am now debt free!" and hang up. They do not follow Australian laws. If they call more than a few times in a month, sue them for harassment!

They just do not stop do they? Just had a call and obviously knew my name. They have called before a number of times and left messages. This time he said who he was and where from that quickly that I got him to repeat it a number of times and finally got it... HCL GPSL and his name was Simon. He kept persisting for my DOB. I asked what it was about and he said CitiBank... I have never had any dealings with CitiBank. We then had a to and fro argument with me asking for more info and him for my DOB repeatedly. He finally told me his name was Simon Bhatt and that his supervisor's name was Andy Marsh (good Indian name there!) and of course phone number 1800 204 884. I then kept repeatedly asking for the business address. He kept declining and asking why I wanted that information. He finally gave up.

This is NO BIG DEAL ... a collection call center based in India, chasing debts for Citi-bank. Firstly, you don't have to confirm any information ... but if your like me, ... i enjoy teasing & upsetting them with CALM-INSULTS. Things like "lousy-cricketers", "1 billion-flops" who couldn't win a medal at the Olympics" & so on. Enjoy the banter, REMEMBER, they're in India

These people are serious pests! They've called a number of times - they're from a collections company called HCL GPSL - chasing me for an alleged debt. They get your number from whoever you have a debt with and want your details - probably just to try and get money out of you as they bought the debt.
Tell them you have no contract with them and if you can, block their number!

Indian man calling for an alleged debt to Citibank.

He commented the call with - how are you doing today (my name)?

I immediately told him he had wrong number and he said he would remove my number off his list and apologised!!!

He then proceeded to terminate the call. I blocked the number.

I am aware of a debt I owe to Citibank for a credit card I had almost 5 years ago.

The debt is owed to Citibank not the collection company. This means that Citibank has sold my debt to this agency and have recouped their funds ect.

This collection agency does not have a leg to stand on as I never signed a credit contract with them so I won’t be paying them.

If I owed Karl $20 I would not pay Kate the $20 I owed I would pay it to Jarl and Kate can shove it! Lol

Once I debt is defaulted and no contact is made to the person owing your credit file gets wiped.

The reason why they ask you to confirm your dob, name ect is to extend that 5 years in order to try and use harassment tactics to make you pay but the reality is if you deny that you are that person they can keep chasing you for it but have to wipe your credit file after 5 years.

The reason is this - the only legal tender in Australia under the constitution is good and silver.

If you loan digital numbers it is not legal tender and you owe diddly squat! Wake up people!

And not to mention Citibank have broken the law by passing on your personal details to a third party...(Privacy Act 1992) I never provided my permission when I signed the credit card agreement...

Anyways just pretend they have the wrong number and that you don’t know that person hang up and block the number!!

If you confirm who you are that 5 years will start again...

Wow, from reading all this tells me that there is a scam going around. Sniffing peoples credit files and attempting to claim bogus amounts from unsuspecting customers. Seems to be an elaborate money raking exercise by Indian scam artists...

You clearly don't know the laws surrounding the collections process then. How dare they try and sue you for money that you spent and won't pay back! And they're the scum of the earth? lol.

They are Indian debt collectors with an office in Sydney (?) Unless you have signed a contract with them, to deal with them, tell them to p*ss off. Being Indian, they don't follow our laws on harassment. They will keep calling until you threaten them!
