Caller: The Social Research Centre

Random SMS from 0477 934 948.

"The Social Research Centre has selected you for an important national study. You will receive a link this evening. For more information go to www.srcentre.com.au/our-research/life-in-australia-study or to opt out call 1800 023 040"

It's not a scam but you should not be clicking on links from a random SMS. That is bad security practice. Blocked and deleted.

If you are not a scam I think you need to change your contact method. I do not respond to generic text messages and I do not unswer calls from unknown numbers and even if I did I would not respond to robot-surveys.

This is the Social Research Centre, part of the Australian National University. Many organisations including government bodies use the SRC to conduct surveys on their behalf. Took me literally one Google search to find this out. It is not a scam.

If this is a genuine research organisation they need to change their research method. I don't reply to unsolicited sms messages and I do not answer unidentifiable calls as a rule. If I do I do not respond to robot-questions.

This has to be a SCAM! I received the following SMS on October 16.
“You’ve been selected to take part in an important survey for ACT Health. An interviewer from the Social Research Centre will call you in the coming days to ask you to participate. Call 1800 023 040 for more info or to opt out”
Two months later still no “coming days” call.
Looks like it’s a good way of identifying phone numbers of gullible people who then call the 1800 number

I don't like unsolicited spam, whether the entity is real or not. The research centre can gtfo.

If you work for them - then they need to look at this page. I agree with the bulk of the sentiments expressed on this page - SCAM at first appearance. Their message comes across as a classic scam - and most people wouldn't bother to search - and I would just hang up on call or tell them to go jump.

Genuine company but idiots. Cold call (text) every day, and if you want to opt out you have to call a 1800 number that goes to a queue, and then to an answering machine. Incompetent buffoons doing useless surveys for government departments. They are spammers who should be banned from receiving governement contracts.

Probably genuine, but incompetent clowns. To get them to stop texting every day you have to call a 1800 number, they put you in a queue and then dump you to an answering machine. Total annoying buffoonery milking government departments doing pointless surveys.

This ANU connected research centre randomly generated their contact lists from the whole Australian Mobile number ranges; then pressed send.
