Might not be a scam - but sending text messages and making phone calls to a minor to take part in surveys is illegal. Have reported this to the police - especially given the topic of the survey sent to a MINOR

This is legitimate. Surveys on behalf of Government departments. At first I thought it might be a scam but I did quite a bit of research including on the government directory website (ending in .gov.au) which links to the src.com.au website and verifies 1800 023 040. Another good indicator is this number has been reported on reverseaustralia since 2017 as being Social Research Centre. Scamers keep changing their number in a very short amount of time.

From an SMS msg. I did not press the number in the text. Just dialled it from another phone. It just rang out twice.

Is not a scam caller. Is a legitimate organisation in Peel St, Melbourne. Has been in operation for about 20 years and has high profile clients including DHHS.

Caller: A text message came from 0481 071 118

The message body was the same a few others have mentioned here: "This message is on behalf of the Cancer Institute of NSW, part of the NSW Government. In the coming days, the Social Research Centre will call to see if you can take part in an important health study. Reply '1' if you live in NSW or ACT. Reply '2' if you do NOT live in NSW or ACT. Call 1800 023 040 to opt out."

I'm going to assume this came as a result of me installing the government 'COVIDSafe' and 'Coronavirus' apps a month or so ago. This is certainly not a scam, given the number in the message is hosted on the SRC's website: https://www.srcentre.com.au/. However, I recommend others who have installed these apps to mention this when posting. IIRC, the disclaimer on these apps stated they would not use our data for purposes other than reducing the spread of COVID.

Turns out this is a legit number. The SRC conduct surveys for lots of different organisations. They only get your number because you have given it to a particular database, e.g. school, police, charities. Check out their website https://www.srcentre.com.au/

Caller: Cancer Insitute of NSW

Received SMS reading:
""This message is on behalf of the Cancer Institute of NSW, part of the NSW Government. In the coming days, the Social Research Centre will call to see if you can take part in an important health study. Reply '1' if you live in NSW or ACT. Reply '2' if you do NOT live in NSW or ACT. Call 1800 023 040 to opt out."

Given that they present themselves as being part of multiple companies, institutes, etc. safe to assume it's just a scam. Do not reply or contact. Simply ignore or block if you can.

Lucy from the Social Research Centre left a message on my answering machine on 8 September on behalf of the Australian National University about an important health topic. She was sorry she missed me and to call back on 1800 023 040 or opt out.
