They called me today 10/1/17 - re: NBN and said he was from Telstra - he new both my old and new address and as I am interested in bundling my phones, internet and Foxtel I thought I would get a quote - he popped me on hold then hung up - I obviously wanted too much info - sadly he did get my date of birth...

If you have a relationship with the company and have not opted out of their market they are also exempt from the law...

Asked me about my NBN connection installed the other day. New my name and then asked to confirm my date of birth. Told me if i was happy with the service by telstra they would remove my name from their call list. Is this legit or what?

Seem legit, and I know the number is an "IP" range (like SkypeIn) so could be anywhere in the world. They have enough details for me to suspect a breach. Could not confirm my account numbers (!), but had contact details, and suposedly amount of last bill but did not know if it was monthly or quarterly. I cannot understand their business model as I am already with Telstra. They had a little technical knowledge, but not enough for the product they were hawking. On the basis that they were acting on behalf of Telstra I will just call Telstra directly. Not interested in NBN just as I can't sustain the cost of the change without hardship. Wanted to check my credit, for a monthly plan I pretty much already have ? But Telstra do this on their website too when any change is considered.

Got a call from them today. They told me they are from a company called TSG group. They are contracted by Telstra to do their call center work to get people onto the NBN from their ADSL service. Blocked the number.

Caller: apparently "NBN telstra team"

I dont have NBN or have any connection to the internet through my Telstra account; due to the fact i pay my roommates to use theirs. I was phoned 3 times in a couple minutes today by this number saying the number is from WA, so I checked out the number before calling them back (glad I did I found this site first) (I used to work for a legitimate company as a telemarketer for their marketing department so I know what not to say to make sure they get no information, while getting as much as I can from them)... I called back obviously confused as to who tf these people are and an Indian lady told me I was redirected to NBN telstra something or other.... saying that they would call customers, as others stated, looking for issues they had etc. I know for a fact Telstra doesnt call customers the same way Google or Windows wouldnt call you. They would only ever call you if you contacted them first and set up a time. This was an unsolicited call. So my, educated guess, is its a scam. Dont tell them anything, you should NEVER share personal information with anyone who contacts you whom you havnt contacted first.

Some garbled message on my message bank about being disconnected and to dial one to fix the problem. Off course I didn't and now see the complaints here.

Caller: Fake Telstra

The call came from a Perth number, said they were with Telstra, but I shut them down pretty quick by asking them some questions and they hung up. Not interested in fake calls and will block this number.

The big hint with this caller is that they knew my name, from a phone book presumably, but then asked me to confirm my date of birth. Well, that was irrelevant to them asking if I was happy with Telstra's service, but also it is NOT the way security ID works. They could ask me if I'd phoned them, but not when they call me. A pretty stupid scam.

Caller: telstra??

Marie rang and said she was from TSA on behalf of Telstra, "first thank you for being a loyal Telstra customer", that is when I hung up, flat voice, just reading from a script. If I need anything I will go to Telstra directly as I have a child who works for them
