This is a Queensland Police number. If they send you a txt they will include in it a landline to a police station for you to call back. Not a scam.

Had 3 back to back calls from a ‘No Caller ID’ followed by three missed calls off another number ending in 097. Not long after, I got a text from this number stating a name, relation to an incident and to contact ‘Mount Ommaney Highway Patrol’ Police station. Few problems. 1) It wasn’t even my name they addressed the text too. 2) I don’t live in QLD 3) Number provided on the text was not connected to any Police Station on a quick Google/ChatGPT search. Regardless, I called Mt Ommaney Police Station’s direct number - juuuust to be sure. I did indeed speak to a Police Officer on the direct number who confirmed the text was legitimate and that the person they were trying to reach must of provided the wrong number. They added a note in their system with my details to advise I shouldn’t get more calls / texts.

Caller: Crime Stoppers Missed a call that appears to be a follow-up to an inquiry. I am not convinced this is legitimate response, as the call was made from a private number, rang once, hung up and then again, thenessage received, only minutes after report was submitted. It states OFFICIAL and that the report is not setting they can assist with, and to provide an address that Police can attend and take up with you. My address was submitted with the report, as it was not done anonymously. Police were sent a policelink report and that reference was sent to me as police investigated and finalised, yet only a few minutes after report to police was submitted, how could it be investigated in that short time: and hence this is regarding stolen identity items and high probability of identity theft. I thought identity theft was at the top of the Police and Government watch at present?!

Caller: Unknown This seems to be a scam number. I received a call from a private number (or no-caller-ID) and then 10min later I got a text message stating that I had a police complaint from neighbours. Here are red flags I noticed for others that may come across this number: 1. I haven't done anything to receive a police complaint 2. My phone tagged this number as unsaved, saying "beware of smishing and phishing (scamming)" 3. The text message used unprofessional language 4. Spelling mistake at the end of the text, meaning someone with English as a second language wrote the text. 5. Official police departments do not send official legal notifications from basic mobile numbers. They would only use dedicated official SMS numbers or landlines to contact you. You can also search Email to SMS (your state department name) and it'll show you what the police department will include in your text message. If it has none or missing some of those things they should be including, it's most likely a scam!!!!!!!! Please do NOT interact with the number, do NOT touch any links etc, and it's best to block the number. Please stay safe <3

Sms Claimed to be police, demanding details of a recent accident.
Unfortunately, I was given a scam number rather than my insurance contact number, so this number could be "ambulance chasers" trying to gain more info from me.
