1. This number is for Colmar Brunton/Your Source Research. They are a legitimate research company that do in house paid product testing as well as over the phone surveys for various organisations, including several Government departments.

2. There is no 'scam.' The Queensland Department of Health, for example, commissions Your Source to randomly call residents in QLD to conduct Health & Lifestyle surveys. Many banks commissions them to call customers on their behalf to complete customer feedback/satisfaction surveys.

3. Market/Social/Gov. Research is EXEMPT from the Do Not Call Register. The Register is for Telemarketers (people trying to sell you something). Researchers can legally call ANYONE from 9-8:30 weekdays and 9-5 weekends. Numbers are randomly generated by a computer, i.e. having a private number means exactly nothing. Again, this is really annoying, but legal.

4. As for the calling and hanging up. Well, I used to work there when I was a student and it's pretty much all young people and students there, because let's face it, it's a sh*tty job and only a broke Uni student would do it. It must be terribly frustrating to be called and hung up on but honestly when you've been calling people and getting rejected all day, every so often you can't be bothered and you hang up on someone. Especially if the 'hello' sounds unfriendly, suspicious, extremely old, etc.

Sorry to the countless strangers that I may have hung up on in the past, but working in a call centre was punishment enough, so let's just call it even.

Very unhappy am on the do not call register - Your source market research keep calling and as soon as I answer hang up. I have NOT signed up to do market research! Tried to call them back but number says no room to leave a message - am going to take this further if it doesnt stop

I had a missed call from this number today. My home phone has a function that allows me to block calls from my missed call listings. This works much better than the "do not call register"

maybe instead of doing this you could jump on the QLD health dept website which does say they are currently doing research!
not to mention a govt dept is'nt going to be calling you themselves haha they contract social research companies to do it for them and that company just so happens to be in melbourne :)
so no, its not a scam. we cant exactly steal your money buy asking about your diet or general health and well being :) so calm down and maybe just help out?

They called me half an hour ago. No-one on the phone but what sounded like a recording device. They had better not call again.

I have had heaps of missed calls from (03) 9564 5200. I decided to answer the call only for them to say can you hold for a minute please then put me on hold for much longer than a minute. I then heard the girl say to a guy "so should I just hang up on her then?" he said "yes" they called from chadstone Victoria. I tried to call back to ask why they called ,e so many times just to hang up rudely and I just got an answering machine

Keep getting calls from this number. When I answer, the caller hangs up.

There are organisations exempt from the do not call register. So if the call is on behalf of one of these organisations, then they can ignore the DNC register.

Glad the answerphone got this one after seeing all the posts, I came here first to see who it was. Why is your privacy and time something that can be stolen without question. Must have happened while we were sleeping.

Most people dont want to waste their time answering these crappy so called surveys or whatever. This number rang for 1 ring & hung up. No wonder people abuse &/or hang up on numbers like these. Adding to the blocking list is the best thing to do. It's so simple to rid these hemorroids with blocking cream.

Guilty wrote "when you've been calling people and getting rejected all day, every so often you can't be bothered and you hang up on someone. Especially if the 'hello' sounds unfriendly, suspicious, extremely old, etc. "

"working in a call centre was punishment enough, so let's just call it even."

That's the mentality of these people, and they're trying to justify it.

Listen here, my 94 year of grandmother trip and fell answering one of these calls. Broke her hip and we lost her during hip replacement surgery. We had taken all of the precautions to prevent such calls, private number, do not call register etc, so to hear it 'legal' because its research just adds insult to injury.

The answer perhaps is to never participate in such surveys, then maybe companies and government departments will stop commissioning these annoying and arguably worthless services.

As for the uni student, get a job at MacDonalds!
