Frequent phone, calls, leaves no message, doesn't answer when I ring back, Scam?

Missed call. Our number is attached to a device which is not used for calls at all, so we never accept a single call. Have not provided this new number anywhere. But as our number seems to have been recycled we get numerous scam calls for the guy who used to own it.

Foreign lady asked if I wanted to change my electricity company and asked me to verify my name. This was a new one on me, I usually get a scammer call between noon and 2pm almost every day, so I'm getting better at picking them. I said no and they hung up.

I understand how these calls make people annoyed, but if I may comment on a few points.
Don't argue with them and point out their errors (which are many) it only "educates" them.

I cannot be certain but believe that the calls are computer generated overseas and come through the internet like Skype and then put through to a person when you answer, also the incoming call often has a apparent legitimate number which shows up on the incoming call register. This is often a false number and usually changes daily from the same scammer.

I have rung these numbers back (with my number blocked) and they are disconnected lines. Except once when a man answered - it turned out that they had been using his number. He was pleased that he finally had an answer as to why he was receiving numerous strange and abusive calls.

As far as Energy Export is concerned - there is an American Government Department called "Export.gov" but I believe it advises American Companies on a Wholesale basis with developing export business and is certainly not the source of these calls.

Yes it is getting very frustrating - these scammers are getting out of control and it is affecting our legitimate businesses. It's frightening to think that hundreds of millions are being ripped off innocent people here in this country and the scammers are getting smarter.

Blocked forever, scum. I bet this group of crims in india bought this number from an australian business, yeah google it, you can find them, and the pathetic Government here say they cant control this menace. I don't believe a communications authority could be so inept and corrupt. And stupid.

Random call very persistent man with Indian accent going on about saving money on my energy bills. I asked where he was calling from and he said company name is Energy Export".

Kept talking over the top of me when I tried to tell him I wasn't interested. He kept yelling at me to be quiet and listen to him. Told him to take my number off his register and I then hung up on him

Sounds indian. Reall couldn care less who the hell it is! Told him im on do not call list ad im trying to cook dinner. Its 6:30pm piss off and hanged up! Sick and tired of this bullsh*t. Bloody rude calling at 6:30pm when ppl trying to cook diner after a long day at work. Have some friggin respect and go home a**holes!

Caller: middle eastern/Indian sub-continent male accent

Wife answered phone and was asked for personal details while refusing to identify himself. He then continued by making crude sexual suggestions to her. Wife hung up.
I (husband) answered phone less than a minute later and similar male, who sounded drunk or drugged, was surprised when a male answered and began threatening to physically assault and rape my wife.
These scum need permanent silencing.

Ha ha you moron scum, you got my answering machine... next it will be my new call blocker bought on ebay! I don't care what you excuse is, you are a criminal and a thief, may you burn in hell, scum.

Regular calls from this number offering energy discount. The scary thing is they always ask for me using my full name. They hang up if I ask where they got my personal information from. Asked Telstra what can be done to stop these calls and was advised to put my number on the Do Not Call Register. My name HAS been on the register for years but the calls don't stop.

If there is a big pause after I say hello I just say goodbye and hang up. These folk have called me before.

Very persistent. Calling me on a travel SIM number while I am overseas, so calls arrive in the middle of the night. Either jumps straight into spiel, or call just drops out. Either way, damage is done, I have been woken up in the wee small hours.

Claims to be from an electricity company. Wants my meter number so he can quoe prices.
