Claims to be Centrelink & asks you to press 1 if you receive a benefit & 2 if you do not. Just scammers trying to fish personal info out of you.

Received a call from this number today. When I answered it, it was a recording stating that it was a centrelink courtesy call, as they had tried several times but had been unsuccessful in contacting us by phone, and that all letters had been unanswered or returned. They then said that they were happy to inform us that the pension rates had gone up, but that I had to ring (02) 6188 5602 and quote this application number 080456, as they needed to speak to me about the increase and back payments. All sounded pretty legit to the untrained person.... They picked the wrong person...I am not on a pension.

Has rung a few times over the last few days, today I answered. Got a recorded message saying it was Dept. Human Services, letting you know there has been an increase in pension rates. If you receive a pension press 1 if not press 2.
I hung up without pressing anything. Next level of scam, I wonder what I would have signed up for if I had pressed any numbers???

Said they were from Human services and were following up on a letter sent in November to us re our payments. When I said that the letter didn't require a reply, I was asked if I received the payments. I told them that my husband received them the Indian caller said she would wait for his reply to the letter and speak with him. How do they get our details and information about when we dealt with Centerlink?

As with others, the caller is claiming to be from Centrelink and speaks with an Indian / Pakistani accent. They know my surname, but get my first name incorrect. As soon as they are questioned, they hang up. Calling the number only gets through to a (full) message bank. They have called several times in the past few weeks.

I had gotten a call from this number today. The speaker had an Indian accent that was heavy-ish. He told me his name but I can not remember it. He said he was calling from Human Services regarding an letter sent out to me in November. Taken aback I said I do not remember anything sent to me from them. I ask what was the letter regarding which he mentioned it was about my pension and that the payments have gone up and the letter was to inform me of this as well as I needed to fill out an application attached. He said without filling out the application I would not get the full payment I was meant to. He then said he could give me an application number to do it online. After a brief hold for me to dig out a pen to write with he then asked me did I get my latest payment. I said I think so. Shortly he asked how much. I said I don't know right off the top of my head. He asked a bit more forcefully to check my bank account followed by me giving him a awkward silence then hanging up the phone in disbelief. Firstly, he called asking for me using my married name which I had yet to change with both Centrelink or Human Services. Secondly, Human Services is the website not actually Centrelink who does sort out government payments except medicare rebates which would not require the questions to be asked that he asked on how much I was being paid. Thirdly, what my family collects I am pretty sure isn't considered a pension. Forth, I am contacting Human Services/Centrelink regarding the scamming phone call.

received 3 calls from this number (03) 6437 2749. The area code for this number is Penguin Tasmania. I don't believe Centrelink have an office there.
First call was last Friday I did not answer as I was not at home. However I researched the number on this website so was prepared for the next call.
The second call was extremely bad sound quality. Lots of noise and lots of echo. The person identified as Alex from Centrelink. When I repeated Alex from Centrelink he hung up.
The third call was much better quality but still with lots of noise. he gave his name but I cant remember it. Said he was calling from Centrelink. I replied I was not aware they had a Centrelink in India. I then advised him this was the 3rd call from this number and that I had researched it and found out he was a scammer. I then suggested his family must be very proud knowing they have raised a liar and a thief. He replied "We are not talking about you". No shame then. We then had a circular conversation on this point where he decided to give up and hung up.

They just rang - and hung up. Every time I get a hang-up call from an interstate number I don't know, I check the number online and if it comes up scam/telemarketing I add it to the blocked number list on my router - about 30 numbers to date. One of the joys of a VOIP phone!

They just tried to call me but we never answer anything that we don't know so it went thru to answering machine. They did not leave a message - as usual. Has now been blocked via CPR Call Blocker. Even without doing that, we rarely get repeat numbers; as soon as it goes to answering machine they seem to lose interest.

Continual phone calls from this number. They never leave name or any info. If we answer they either try selling downlights or solar power. We receive these calls at least 3-4 times a day, week in week out. l have registered with 'do not call' at least 8 times but to no avail. I have reported the number to Telstra but was told there's nothing they can do.

They are obviously only interested in verifying your name - the one you answer with - and anything more they can persuade you to tell them, to add to their data base which they will then sell to others wanting leads for their marketing calls.

It seems that the only thing these scammers know, until you tell them more, is linked to green energy and pensions, so that's how they try to hook you.

They have possibly got hold of some incomplete information from one of the many green makeover companies that are subsidised by the government to offer pensioners free LED lights or shower roses to save on electricity and water costs.

Centrelink doesn't even have time or staff to answer calls, let alone make any!

I have an answering machine that asks for name and number for a call-back a.s.a.p.
If I'm in the office and they don't speak, I don't pick up. It's like flyspray for marketers!
