The number is bounced from overseas, probably the Philippines or Indonesia judging by the delay. They say they're Telstra reps and that a virus on my computer is "compromising" the Telstra network. Want me to install a program to "fix" the problem. A droll story.

They've been calling me twice a day, every day for two weeks now. I don't intend to block them. I'm incredibly nasty and offensive towards them every time they call. I suggest others do the same. Personally, I find it rather therapeutic.

For those that have Call Forward Activated (or read below)

What is Call Forward - Selected Callers?
Call Forward Selected Caller will immediately forward all calls from up to 15 phone numbers to a different phone number.
It will override any other active Call Forward features.
Please note that calls may not be forwarded to some numbers (e.g. international numbers and 000).

you can go read it from the TELSTRA Book online here

https://www.telstra.com.au/help/download/document/home-features-user-guide-c020.pdf

Glad they are now calling others not me anymore

I just answered a call and was told similar "From Telstra, about to be disconnected and I know why". I was initially confused then figured it was some telemarketer. I told him to F'off and then i received an absolute horrendous earful of disgusting sexual innuendo. I was/am totally shocked!!! Unsure how or if I can report but I wish I had a recording to show how unbelievable, what he said.

Just had a call from them saying he is from Telstra (in his accent and cant understand a word he said properly) and that my internet is being hacked. I said Telstra do not call people. I just let him and hung up. We have caller id so I can see who rings and 5 minutes later we get an Overseas call and they didn't say anything. I know they are scams and if they call again I will be rude back to them on phone or I might act dumb to annoy them.

Indian I'd say. They are very abusive if you actually tell them you are a Telstra Tech yourself. I had a Telstra trace on my line for several months for this crowd which finished a week ago. Never got a call in that period now I'm getting bombarded again. I'd say this crowd have inside information of when not to call.

This number calls at least once a day. Most of the time we've missed it as we're not home but occasionally as in tonight they religiously call around 8pm. I used just answer the call, don't speak and then have much pleasure in hanging up. One day they'll get the message!!

Do yourselves a favour and get a telstra guardian 301 phone. Stops both legit and dodgy telemarketers in their tracks. Numbers not in your address book have to announce their name before the phone even rings. Great stuff. New and private numbers don't even go through to the answering machine unless they announce first.

Used to get at least 2 calls a week from telemarketers before getting the phone... Now only know they have rang if I look at the call history. The only reason I'm here is I searched the number of this ignored call. Has 1000 number phone book with ignore and allow options.

Hi Dennis, when you set 'call forward select numbers' what # do you call forward to please? Like so many others we are bombarded with scam calls, have been trying to block them but to be able to call forward sound good option. Just curious what number you call forward the scammers to.

Kind regards
Judy

A big thank you to Dennis (5 Feb 2016) for making my day by mentioning the scope to use "Call Forward - Selected Callers" to get rid of these creeps. With great glee I immediately followed his advice and downloaded the Telstra Book
https://www.telstra.com.au/help/download/document/home-features-user-guide-c020.pdf and, using the instructions there, activated our activated "Call Forward". I didn't get beyond that, which took some of the fun out of it, but I will be phoning for assistance after the public holiday. I really hope I can forward the calls from (02) 9675 7742 to another one of the Australian numbers from which I receive nuisance calls, e.g. (03) 9244 1020 or (08) 9472 1838 or (03) 6108 0800 or (02) 4965 8048. If we all used our quota of 15 redirections to forward these calls to one of the other callers, maybe we could start clogging their lines.
If you are a Telstra customer, the people at the unwelcome calls number 1800 805 996) will block up to 15 numbers for you. They can also put a block on all overseas calls if that option suits you. Doing both of those things in May 2015 gave us some relief but we copped a different batch of maggots this year.

Same deal as all the previous comments. The calls have been far more frequent since I played a few games with them to let them know I was onto their scam. I think they are bored and target people who give them grief. Probably best to hang up without giving them any ammunition, then go out and buy a Uniden phone with call blocking. ( I have model number XDect 8155, best purchase I ever made.)

A few weeks of this only, you people are fortunate. I have had at least two calls daily for 6 months. This has increased over the last 3 months to 3-4 per day. If my landline is diverted to my mobile I now have a "Do not answer" contact with this and other similar numbers that I have now blocked. I now just get a missed call message 3-4 times a day.
Stupid scammers to keep ringing the same people repeatedly unless they are paid to call so mobile phone diversion calls charges are incurred and a Telco makes money.

I like to play with these b#@tards. I either cut to the chase and offer to give them my credit card details straight away, (they can't get the number quick enough), so I just start saying random numbers until they have enough, they eventually hang up. Or I will go along with them and when they want credit card details I start reading out my library card number, or medicare number, or clothing store card number (got this tip from googling how to beat internet scammers). They get so frustrated and it's hilarious. They will stay on the line for as long as it takes but I usually then call them out on the scam and tell them they are an embarrassment to people in their country. If I'm in a cranky mood I'll tell them to piss off and hang up. I haven't had the abusive callers though - yet!
