Old topic... but received a call from this number today.
People please read the previous posts!!!!
Who it is IS answered, how they can call while been on the DNC Register IS answered... just read 3 pages of the same comment looking for a solution FFS.

1. It's a research company. Not worth answering.
2. DNCr doesn't block these.
3. A system calls multiple numbers at once. When they get an pick up, all other calls are hung up on.

actually worked there before. just to answer some queries. Millward Brown is a part of National Field Services. Its an independent Market Reseach company located in Mascot, Sydney (close to Sydney Airport). They are purely market research and legally cannot attempt to sell you anything under the guise of market research. They do a wide variety of surveys across Australia on various issues such as Government funded feedback studies, research on council elections, business feedback studies and they are even the first part of the process for the TV ratings for Australia. As they are market research they are exempt from the 'do not call register' which only serves to block Telemarketing and sales calls and which doesnt block charities or market research. They call through computers and use a random digit dialler which simply strings together random phonenumbers onto the computer which are then called (there are roughly up to 200 of these computers dialling at one time). Because its a computer operated system, any calls that are not picked up or go to the answering machine are simply put back into the system by the computer so keep in mind the people operating them are not choosing to recall you over and over again and have no control over what numbers they dial. As with any computer operated system calling australia-wide there are often issues in terms of phones disconnecting and interstate reception. i would advise you to hear them out because some surveys may be worth your time (ie the council feedback studies which aim to help councils figure out what needs to be improved upon) but if you are told about a survey you have no interest for, simply refuse and you wont have another call from them on the same subject :)

Hey Guys, I was getting these calls too. Got onto Telstra and they have blocked this phone number from calling my phone. Could be something for everyone to look into doing. Imagine if everyone did this.

Hi Jeff!
Good luck getting your local MP to ban market research. They use it as much, if not more, than anyone. I know it's a horrific crime against humanity for someone you don't know to have the sheer gall to call your telephone number and expect you to form words with your mouth and use your brain to construct cogent thoughts for a few seconds, or maybe even minutes. Get on to Banky Moon at the United Nations, and see if you can get the security council to pass a resolution, condemning this outrageous breach of your human rights.
Fondest regards,
Sir Frank

They're legitimate market and social research. They do polls and market studies for companies like Australia Post and Nielsen Media and surveys for Victorian Government.

Phone numbers dialled are made up by computer. The 'Do Not Call' register doesn't exclude market research so it won't stop a call from them or any other company doing genuine market research.

If they ring you and hang up, its probably because they have a computer system ringing the numbers - I don't see why they would just hang up on people if they're conducting a study.

Research company trying to help businesses find out what it is consumers want to see change. With our feedback this can be done. However some people out there think it's all to much just to answer a short survey, instead rather get on sites like this and waste the same time bitching about it. Seriously grow up! They are surveys to ultimately benefit consumers you idiots!

Then someone should challenge the concept of multiple generated calls and once one answers the rest are hung up on as being technically malicious and of high nuisance value as all but one call was ever going to be connected. Would anyone tolerate a door to door salesperson ringing 100 doorbells at once but only speaking to the first person who opened the door? The other 99 would soon take action if it continued. We need to actively hassle our local MPs because in this world that's the most effective way of getting something stopped if enough people annpy their local politician too much, too frequently, same issue.

They phoned me doing market research. When I asked who was paying them to get this information, it took several minutes and several different people, till someone would tell me who I would be giving my information to. Turned out to be British Tobacco. I told them there was no way I was going to give anything to a tobacco company and to remove my number from their contact lists.

My wife has received 2 calls from this number late tonight, the first about 2230 right before she went to bed and the other was at 2350 (10 minutes to midnight) which woke her from her sleep.

This number has called multiple times on several other occasions though never at this time of night. It is absolutely ridiculous. The calls always barely ring before being diverted to message bank without any message being left.

This Millward Brown - National Field Services group are obviously extremely unprofessional.
