I just received this call for my Dad. it was an a guy with an indian accent he was calling from the ATO and he said that my dad was entitled to $7600 refund. The number he called from was (02) 9191 9703

Being harassed by these people as well - funnily enough for a $7600 refund. asked to call the above number and quote a reference number. Tried calling the number, first it didnt connect at all, tried again and then no answer but received a call about 30 seconds later saying that they missed our call but were ready to process the refund. Accountant confirmed that this is a scam.

They are also impersonating officers of the ATO, the same sort of fraud as that reported by Deb, someone with an Indian accent called my elderly mother claiming they (the ATO) owed her $7,000 and wanted her to get a Western Union account, etc ... The ATO will *NEVER* contact people on the phone like that, will *NEVER* use Western Union for payments or refunds, if this happens to you too report it to the Australian Tax Office on: 13 28 61
