Caller: Unknown (02) 8488 1031: My mum had a call from this number advising her pension had been underpaid and that if she went to an appointment the next afternoon at her local Centrelink Office, she'd get a reimbursement cheque. She said she'd have to check if I could take her. When she spoke to me, I told her it was a hoax and not to worry about it. However, they rang again the next morning to make sure she was attending the appointment that afternoon. This made me very concerned they were trying to lure her out of her house. I reported it to the police. They followed it up and traced it back to a Sri Lankan "call centre". They think that what would have happened next is that if mum couldn't go, they would offer to transfer the money instead, and then ask for her bank details.

SCAM - NOT CENTRELINK - automated call, sounds official - it is not, offers prompts to push button 1 or 2 and speak to someone - Centrelink do NOT make calls of this nature, these lowlifes are fishing for personal information.

I had a call from this number regarding Centrelink. Thought it was strange as I don't receive payments from Centrelink. I did ring the number and it answered as Centrelink. Having read the other post I now certain think this is a scam and will block the number.

I had the same call today and was also given a application number. With all the technology that we have available today why can't they stop these scammers. I am a full time carer and do not have time for these idiots. I had five calls in one day from the Telstra scammer. They must think that we Australians as idiots!

Mum got a call from an Indian Male from this number stating that she was owed $2000.00 in back payment of her pension. He provided the same number on the caller ID as his "Direct Line" as CentreLink had attempted to call several time and that mail had gone unanswered. He alledges he made an appointment with the local CentreLink Office the following day to collect the cheque as previous attempt to send it in the mail had failed. The Indian Male called back and said that Mum need to register and for the back payment and the cost was $100 in an Apple gift card. The Indian Male said to go to Woolworths to get an Apple gift card for $100. That's when Mum knew it was a scam.
