Claim to be from the ATO with a refund of over $700 and to ring (02) 8282 5250 to leave personal details in order for the funds to be forwarded.

Got this recently with exact same details that I'm owed $1673. Seems like they're still trying it on even after a few years.

Called my home number today in Sydney So still active in phishing.. Thanks for the info that it is a scam.. Thought so.

Received a call that was supposedly from ATO saying I was owed $1673 and to ring the verification office on (02) 8282 5250. Not likely

I got the message saying i had a refund from ATO of 1673.00 to call back and verify my details….AS IF !!!!!!!…when i call back it cuts me off ……ggggrrrr bastards !!!!!

Received same message re Tax refund wanted my Licence and my Medicare number what will they think of next. Scam

Received phone message on message bank 13/3. Left message of $1,673.00 refund from ATO and to ring this number with verification, I presume tax file number etc.

Getting the call from same number.she even 2 lang st Sydney but could not give the suburb name.

Have called and left messages several times over the last few days. One call was at 6am. Stating there is a refund from the ato due and I need to call and confirm my details. No names are ever mentioned.

Message on answering machine saying a had a $600 refund from the ATO, must be giving this scam another go, rang March 14 2014.

Just5 hyad an automated call giving me this number stating that a refund of $ 16-- was due and I ahd to verify my details with the recovery team.
Rang Consumer Affairs and was told this is a SCAM and not to return the call.
Just did my tax on 9/3 and it has not been lodged as yet. I have to p0ay and have not had refund for a while.

A lady by the name of BeniJean (gave her ID number as 8644) from the ATO Verification Department asked me to verify information that was on my Income Tax Assessment in order to get an additional refund amount of $1673.00 She already had my name and address

Definitely a scam. Computer generated voice saying the ATO had a refund of over $1700 for me & to ring (02) 8282 5250 to confirm my details. Definitely suspicious - 1. haven't done tax return for this year, 2. I use a tax agent, & 3. I will actually probably owe them for last year's education refund overpayment.
I Rang the ATO, & they confirmed it's a scam - they had no record of contacting me, or a refund due. They took all the details I could give, and said it would be 'escalated' as she'd had 2 other similar complaints this week.

There is no way the ATO would contact you directly in this manner. Contact your accountant. Report it to the police and to the ATO complaints line.

Big scam, the real ATO did'nt seem that interested when I contacted them this morning

I have also recieved a automated call saying ato owes me 783 it sounds to good to be true as I have not lodged a refund yet...???? sounds like a scam to me
