Hey guys, got the same phone call today from scumbag. Same story, asked for full name, mobile number, date of birth. Went along with their scum. As for grand finale, they have asked me to deposit $199.00 in the post office.

Any idea where to report this ..

Just got the same call as every one here. Just wonder where did they get so much information already about every one of us here. Who sold them our info? People/Organisation who sells our information SHOULD BE LIABLE for those SCAM's.

I have had a similar experience - the accented voice was "Max Lewis", the refund was $7,268 and the number to ring (02) 8006 1416.

This page should have a call type: SCAM

I just received the call from a "Kevin Clark" who had a heavy Indian accent and did not sound like a Kevin Clark! He stated that he was from the Australian Federal Government, but could not nominate an agency. He said that I would receive a cheque for $7,600+ for bank fees charged incorrectly. I was to call his manager, Catherine Douglas, on (02) 8006 1416, to arrange the cheque delivery. Didn't ever bother calling!

Today Dec 19th I had a call from an Indian sounding chap. Yep, I was to receive $5000 ish. I was to ring (02) 8006 1416 and quote AG94. Funny, that code has done the rounds!!!
Surely as so many have been given the same numbers the authorities can do something.

I just had the same call as all the above. Women requesting me to pay $200 for lawyers fees and to not discuss the matter to anyone else as it was confidential.

Look the Aussie Gov dose not do refunds like this end of story..don't be afraid of giving your bank details there is no way they can draw from your bank just be careful never to give credit card no's, looks like they just pick random names from the ph book...they don't know your date of birth and even if they did, there is no value in that.
This scam is simply about the $200 odd you post to them...it hardly seems worth it for the amount of scamming they have to do.
They asked me which bank I would like the cheque from !! I said that the federal reserve bank would be good as that is the one that is used for all Government refunds and transactions...Oh yes Ma'am of course Ma'am... ha ha obviously they have never had a tax return !!
I suppose there are people out there that are either greedy or fools, but to me this scam is so blatantly silly I can't see who would be fooled, but of course realistically, there must be some who have been done, I feel for these poor people....how can one human do this to another ?
Not nice people...who are also hopelessly incompetent thieves, dumb and even dumber and that includes Telstra for not shutting them down yet.

same story for me too. Man was a little indignant when I told him he needed to rethink his choice of work as he was working for a scammer!

They are still doing it, had a call from Australian recovery office! said we had overpaid bank fees for many years totaling over $5000 had to call Pamela Peterson with a ref # & they would send out a cheque, I rang back just after 5pm & was told the office was closing for the day & i would have to call back the following day. I have not bothered ringing back after i read some of the other posts they new our name address & which bank we dealt with (maybe that was just a good guess with the bank)something should be done about this a lot of innocent people are likely to fall for the scam.

Same call regarding ringing (02) 8007 4754) to claim my $5000.
The phone # looks like an internet number so telstra cannot block it.
After looking at this site I have ignored it.

just received a call sounded like it came from overseas from this number and was told the ATO Reclaim Department of Aust Federal Government was going to repay me $5000 asking would I like a cheque or money deposited. I said send a cheque they wanted me to confirm which bank I dealt with I gave them and incorrect bank no other details and questioned why if it was the ATO calling why they didn't already have my details. I was told to ring and give a confirmation number to a manger and they would then confirm I was to receive the money and no doubt they would then want to confirm my banking details. I did not call back. lets face it people the government NEVER just gives us money

100% scam! Rang about a refund of 5k there abouts from the Australian government, they knew my name and address. Then wanted to know my DOB which I refused to tell. Then gave me this number to ring to speak to Gary smith along with a ref number. It was an Indian man speaking and it was so dodgy.

Indian or Indonesian man from the Australian Government had same spiel of us being overcharged around $5000 (was not specific about reason for overcharging, something about Goods and Services). Asked for DOB and bank details. Not given. Told to send a cheque as he had our address. I was told to call his manager Gary Smith on (02) 8007 4754. Thanks to this web site, my suspicions were confirmed: this is a SCAM. Agree with others, Telstra, do something about this SCAM.
