My mother was a victim of a scam where she called Telstra on their 132200 number and was put through by a Telsra employee (name and employe no. given were valid) to another apparent Telstra employee in the Tech department, who then gave her this number (02) 8006 9285 to call back on so she wouldn't have to go through the 132200 IVR process when calling back. Scam took nearly $10,000 from my morher's online banking account. Telsra is denying it's a problem with their people or systems! So take care - never ring Telstra back on any number other than those on their bill or website. An internal investigation of Telstra is in order, but getting that to happen will be a struggle since Telstra appears to have trouble helping customers with ordinary problems!

Forgot to mention the name of the Telstra employee given is "Darwin" and his employee number is D735953 which Telstra has confirmed to me is a current employee with Telstra. Is this an inside job, or has Telstra somehow been hacked? Refer to the story put up by Lynette of Lutwyche (http://www.reverseaustralia.com/lookup/(03) 9016 3648/) on October 3 2015, ten days before my mum was hit. Her story has the same hallmarks (crackly line/internet connection), though the difference is that mum called Telstra on their own line 13 22 00 and was given the dodgy number (02) 8006 9285) to call by the person she was put through to (who gave his name as "Thomas"). How can this be possible unless it's an inside job? Lynette makes a valid point - "Strangely we had made an appointment for a Telstra Techie to call on us that very day re: a crackly line.... How did they know?...inside info?! or hacking??" Tesltra is denying my mother's version of events, claiming there's no record of her calls in their system and basically calling her a liar. They've put her into the "you got scammed due to your own stupidity" category. Clearly there's more to the story.

Follow up to this - Telstra did investigate, and surprise surprise, found no evidence of a fraud within their company.
