Just had the same thing happen. As soon as I gave my name they hung up.

I got the same automated voice message saying "Your house is under surveillance, so do not disregard this message. Call me back as soon as possible on (02) 6188 6075. I will repeat (02) 6188 6075. Remember delay in calling us back may end in legal prosecution. Thank you". I called him back and it was a man with a thick Indian accent and he stated he was from the Federal Investigation Unit and something blah, I couldn't understand him as the line wasn't clear and the conversation didn't make any sense to me. When I asked where he was calling from it was from some Investigation unit with a rather English sounding name. Just knew it was a scam from the whole experience, anyway nothing made sense. I have reported this to the local 131444 as well as Scam watch.

I too received a voicemail saying my house was under surveillance and I was the prime suspect, and needed to call them back. Figured it was dodgy - as if the police tell you when you are under surveillance LOL. But anyway I rang back, because I wanted some fun, and they told me it was the Tax Office and asked for my name. I said I would call the ATO directly, to ensure the call wasn't fraudulent and the guy hung up straight away.

Just had a phone call from these people claiming to be from the ATO Crime and Prosecution department. They claimed that I needed to provide details of my solicitor and/or lawyer in relation to tax evasion. I spoke with a super dodgy Indian who then told me he loved speaking with me and my voice was lovely as he had thought he would be phoning an 'old lady'. When I questioned why he would think that if he had my date of birth on file, he told me he hadn't been provided with that. However he did have the correct email and home address. Scary. Beware. Have reported to real ATO on 1800 008 540

I got one this morning from someone saying how I owe tax and there will be a warrant out for my arrest. I phoned the taxation department and reported the scam. At least I found out I am not in trouble.

Just had same thing happen. Had missed call from this number and they left a computer generated voice mail. Sounds like when the Australian tax office got hacked our details were taken. Very strange. They threaten with affidavit and house under surveillance. What bullsh*t, I didn't call back. It's s scam

Yes, exactly the same spiel, only my call looped a couple of times for the first few words (the recording must be wearing out!) Hung up even before they could finish the number I was to call them back on.

I just got a call from this number with same automated voice message as @Val received. Saying it was the ATO and I was prime person in an affidavit and that my house is under surveillance. The ATO sits outside your house now?! I hung up as they were saying do not not ignore this message. Thanks to everyone on this forum for posting your experiences it helps to get the word out there they are scammers. It very obvious that if its a recording its not real, scammers are getting lazy.

Same thing with me, got a threatening prerecorded message that I'm under investigation and my house is under surveillance. Rang back, was asked what my name was but I said "you tell me what this is about first" to with he replied "No Name, you can F...K OFF!". That got me to thinking this must be a legitimate Government call...... LOL
Rang him back on a different phone but he knew it was not a number he had called before, so I gave him mine since he already had it anyway, called me by my full name which was a total shock. It was, as the others, revering to a tax problem and wanted to know if I have an Accountant or Solicitor. I said no to which he directed me to the ATO website with a case number that he spurted out.
Have contacted ATO who are activily investigating these scammers.
Maybe someone here can enlighten me as to what this scammer could possibly achieve by directing me to ATO?

Automated Message left claiming to be the ATO - truncated mixture of scary formal language ("there is an affidavit against your name", "you are a suspect" "your house is under surveillance") and weird non-formal language "Do not disregard this message or delete the phone number because you risk prosecution if you do not call ME back"... call from 'canberra' and automated Australian voice software use sounded plausible too - but web-based programs like these are easy to come by! Scammy McScam Scam. Annoying!

Same thing happened to me just then. He said he was from ATO and wanted my name. When I asked him where he was from again he hung up. When I call that number now I get a message saying "SKAT" is not available leave a message.

I received a similar message. They said they were from the ATO. Same number as yours, Val - (02) 6188 6075. Ditto re the knowledge that the ATO would be in touch through my accountants or letter, not a machine-generated message. I have been targeted by scammers a bit lately and am over it.

Same deal as Val except they identified themselves as the Tax Department. Indeed if the case, they most certainly would not be leaving a computer generated voice mail...

Automated call, supposedly from the ATO saying they received and affidavit and that my house is under surveillance, and to call back. What a crock of crap.

Just got the same message, rang back Answered by a David Anderson with a very thick Indian accent. when quizzed where his office was after I suggested Mumbai he hung up

Called saying they were from tax office and I had debt from 2010-2015 that needed paid or house at risk!
Obvious scam just hang up!
