Received several calls from James Cook (02) 6172 0207 purporting to be from Audit division of Aust Tax Office, saying that they tried unsuccesfully to reach me at my mailing address. the matter is URGENT and Important, i need to call them back NOW regarding a Tax Audit.

Yep just got a voicemail claiming I've been ignoring their mail and to return the call asap and to not disregard. This "James Cooper" chap is clearly a machine, sounds almost creepy in a way.
Googled the number, straight up scam.
I wish for a device to rig up to my phone that identifies scam number and discharges and electric current into the scammers ear hole.

Caller from private overseas number called stating they from ATO and that we were being indicted for tax fraud. When asked for his details he said James Cooper (clearly indian accent) and stated phone (02) 6172 0207. He will ask you to make payment to 'clear' your tax debt.

Do not give out your personal details on this call. It is a scammer

Today I received a call from an unidentified caller stating there was a legal issue involving me and if I don't get back to them they will issue an arrest warrant. The number quoted was (02) 6172 0207.

Absolute scum of the earth. I knew it was a scam immediately but I am concerned for the people out there who may be caught out. I would love to know who these scum are and meet them !!!

I have now blocked it.
Telstra has previously advised me to block the 'phone numbers of spam callers but would have done it anyway due to the comments on this page.

Just received a robotic voicemail saying they tried to contact me (ATO) and if I don't contact them back, they will have to issue a warrant for my arrest. Total scam! I know where I stand with my financials and any conversation I've had with the ATO is followed through with a message via MyGov and/or letter in the mail.

I received a phone call from James Cooper who left a message on my answering machine, rang ato to find out its a scam, earn you own money instead of ripping every body else off we work hard for our money so should you

Got a call this morning from 'James Cooper' on the answering machine. Figured if it really was the ATO I'd have heard more than just a recorded message.

My elderly mother was targeted by this idiot today. would love to have a "chat" with him... I think this should all be reported to the police and have him charged!!

Have had 2 calls from the (robotic English voiced) James Cooper in the past week. Thought immediately a scam...have just reported to the ATO. Apparently they have targeted various suburbs and convinced some people to send them big sums of money or they will be arrested etc etc. So sad that there are people who have to resort to this....I hope they catch up with "Mr Cooper" sooner rather than later!
