Man with american accent pretending to be from the ATO saying there are criminal proceedings pending for tax fraud unless I ring this number immediately

Aggressive man supposedly calling from ATO Canberra saying they will commence criminal charges against me for tax evasion.

Claiming from ATO Canberra office and legal proceedings will commence on tax avoidance if arrangements are not made by contacting a person on this number

Man with an accent said that if I did not phone this number then I would have criminal proceedings for tax evasion badge ID number 594itq

Same story as all the others - Mark from Tax office saying there are criminal charges for tax avoidance. Said I needed to call the number immediately as it is very important.

My elderly friend just rang me and said that she has had a message from ATO in Canberra saying she had to ring them back or she was going to be charged with fraud but she tried to ring the number and it did not answer and just went to the engaged single. and was very worried about it.

I had the same message left on my machine same name. I did not ring it back

I had a similar call on my answering machine, claiming Tax Fraud etc etc directing me to ring (02) 6140 3460. It sounded like a scam to me as an accountant does my tax. I called Consumer Affairs in WA and they confirmed it is a scam and to ignore it.

American accent guy called himself Warren, who is calling from ATO Canberra in relation to fax fraud.
