i am a recent victim of this ATO scam, called police and service providor, I would suggest all who are here and reading this to log time and date & report back to phone service providors for further investigation

got numerous calls from this guy claiming to be from the ATO trying to get money from western Union on some names, i am a victim, transferred the money already and end up with scam. Please do not beleave these guys' its a fraud. In this way i may help other people to end up with scam

I received a call also from "Bob Marley" who worked for the ATO Canberra saying I have a rebate of $3,600.42
He quoted me a reference number which he made me repeat and changed probably 5 times, he then gave me a phone number to call (02) 6108 4650 and said that I needed to call this number by the end of the day or I would not receive my rebate.
When I advised that I would get my accountant to sort this all out he said that only I could call to verify my details and kept saying that this call is being recorded. During the call he also advised that the money must be used responsibly and not for purposes such as gambling (first I had ever heard of the ATO giving out financial advise!).
Fortunately I never did call the number, however I am still very concerned about the possibility of voice recognition software being implemented as part of this scam as he made me repeat so many letters and numbers.
The ATO will always make contact with you via post and will never ask you to call another number. My advice would be if your unsure hang up!
If the ATO are going to 'give' you money they will either post it to you in the form of a cheque or they will bank it into your existing bank account that they already have, no matter what you will always be advised in writing.

scam! was told that julia gillard had chosen some australians to get $3500 in tax just by calling this number. Beware.

I also got calls from this guy and telling me that I receive tax refund of $3,500 and ask me to call (02) 6108 4650 and after that I can receive the money within 24 hr. I never call that number because I think its a fraud.

Please do not beleave this guy claiming to be from the ATO trying to get money through put some money into his western union. Its a known scam i am suffered already with this scam. Thought i might help others.

Got the same call from a guy claiming to be ATO grants department representative, said I was going to recieve $3600.42,asked me if I had a Reserve Bank close by to receive funds (d*ckheads). Asked me to go to Post Office with ID and fill in Western Union Transfer form to pay a transfer fee of $160 so that the funds could then be put into my account which I would recieve back making the total $3765.42. It clicked when he said Western Union transfer and I just hung up!!!

They give me this number to call (03) 9005 6224 for this scam.Then he call me several time and number is Private +4044.

Claim to be from ATO. AVOID

we are an accountant firm, received a call from one of our clients saying that this person called saying that they were from the ATO and that they will be getting a refund of $3600.42! said to call (02) 6108 4650 with a reference number.
we called back and spoke to Michael claiming to be from the Police department, answered all questions not to sure if they were true or not.
this is definitely some sort of scam, don't trust them, contact your Accountant as soon as you get a call claiming that money is owed to you from the ATO.
they are just transferring calls to and from the people that work their claiming that they are either from the bank or some other company.

A man just called me from an unknown number claiming to be Ronnie Johnson from the ATO? Said I had $4632 waiting to be collected. Gave me a reference number and told me to call this number to confirm payment. I understand now that it was a scam so I refuse to call but how did he get my information?? He knew my name, address, phone number and even my partners name..

He rang us in WA claiming the same ATO scam story, and gave us an application number and ID. This time his name was Bob Martin.
Has anyone started to track this fraud person?
I do not know why he gave the same phone number (02) 6108 4650).. I do not think that he will answer if you really call because he can be tracked this way..

Received a call from private no, asked to call 6108 4650 to get 3200 AUD

The same call, 4600 refund from the ATO. I called him(Rogers was his name as he was claming). I don't know where to report this number to. Thios is just a bloody scam.

Thank you all for the warning. I too received a guy claiming to be from the taxation office. I found it rather suspicious and asked some questions and decided to find out if this was a scam.

Guy called claiming to be from ATO with refund $4610.00 - To Collect give him bank details - said didn't have a Bank A/C he said donate monies to (4) Charities’ he named - Not Australia.

Transferred me to a guy called Michael (claimed to be from Commonwealth Bank) to transfer money.

Hung up but found that we charged a STD call for our trouble - be careful & give no details - hang up

Guy called stating he is from the Taxation Dept.

Asked for transfer of money - redirected a call to this number. This guys claims he's Michael from the Commonweath Bank - charged for this call as a STD call - be careful they are crroks
