I received a call from the "Australian Taxation Department" telling me that i had won a grant of $7000 from the federal govt because i pay all my bills on time!! He gave me this number to talk to a "senior officer" who would explain everything I had to do. He also gave a number A952 to quote to the "officer". I knew straight away that this was a scam!

Same story as the previous writers.

hey guys...Just received a call from( indian accent) a person claiming to be from ATO, as I had been of good charcater and paid all of my government accounts on time was eligible for $7000.00 rebate, just phone their accounts department on (03) 9005 6224,quote reference A329 and they would assist with my payment. I was also told to repeat those numbers adn am not sure for what reasons. anyway its a scam.BEWARE....

I got a strange call 5 mins ago. A guy named himself John Michael from ato, told me I was luckly chosen to win $7000 from federal gov, and povideD me (03) 9005 6224 and ref num A952. I asked him if this info would be on the ato website, he said he was too busy and everything would be explained if I called above number. I think this is a scam!

Same happened to me a few minutes ago.. I was given exact details like you guys have mentioned....... I donot want to sound racist here..but the accent was purely from an Indian guy trying to give me his name as Micheal Adam and trying his best to twist his tongue to fake an aussie accent. Well I did not buy him..but I returned the call and told them straight up what a f*cked up team they make!

I got a call this morning from ato and they told me i am selected for $700. They gave me a reference number and advice me to call (03) 9005 6224 for details.

i also received a same call from someone talking about the $7000 grant from Australian tax office and they told me to donate $270 and i will receive a 6 digit no and i will get the money from bank.but that was fake...

this morning i was at home and recieved the call that the gov. is granting $7000.00 to few of the australian resident and the guy asked me to send $250 to the UNICEF through western union money transfer.While I was talking my freind the the detail about the number that scammer and find out about the ATO scam and asked the guy should we report to police even though he was talking in a very confident way so this is a alert message to every one be careful plz..

Yes! I did too and knew this was a scam but I thought I'd chase it down further and called the number but it just rang off the hook. Plus in the drop down box below you should have another option - SCAM

I also received a same call from some one advising me that i am eligible for grant of $7000 and gave me number (03) 9005 6224 to call back and talk to senior officer.
