These people ring up and say they are from the ATO and say that you are being prosecuted for fraud.
They want to get your details and money so that the process will stop.
Be careful don't give them any information

I had a similar phone message from supposedly from the ATO and when I returned the call what I was told was most disturbing. They indicated I had a fraud conviction against me and that the Police were about to serve a warrant for my arrest. They said it related to a 5 yr perior around 2009-2013 for an amount of an amount around $5500 That two letters had been sent by registered post and the dates were a year ago and had not been signed for so they were returned and that they had not yet advised the Fed Gov or media about it and were giving me this last chance to pay it outright but I had to not disclose the information to anyone(as they had not advised anyone) they were recording the conversation so therefore I was not to hang up as this would indicate I was not being co-operative, and not ask questions until I was given the authority, and that the conversation was being listened to by a representative of the bar who would decide on the ultimate course of action. I had already shown that I was a person with intent to fraud so they were dealing withg me this way. I told them that I had no previous convictions of any kind and therefore could not understand this extreme course of action. They gave me a case number, told me under which act I was being charged, that if I chose to fight the charge then my assets would all be frozen, including bank accounts, passports, that my assets could be seized to repay the money, that the cost of the action would result in $75000 to $95000 and it would be published in the media etc etc. They asked if I was able to pay the amount from my bank account to avoid all this publicity etc. and when I said I could they then put me through to the bar council agent who told me that the payment would be required that day in order to drop the charges. Once I said that I thought this was a very irregular way for the ATO to collect payments, I believed they worked more with you to resolve the issue rather than this rather than this way of resolving them, and that my accountant should also have been notified. The Agent became very angry and said "right, we will now be issuing a warrant for your arrest etc. etc". I had put up with this long enough to realise that this was a hoax and so cleverly worded that it was enough to put the element of doubt in my mind and I told them so. Again I was told that the Police would be coming shortly with a warrant for my arrest. Fortunately a friend told me of this web site so I was able to calm down and realise it was a hoax.

Good ol' Jason O'Connor from Mumbai ;-). Yes, he continues to be a buzy man (it would be a recorded message) if you don't answer. I've had this call on three or so occasions over the last 12 months. I feel sorry for people who are more trusting than I who would find a message such as this distressing. A typical Scam and time waster!!!

i called him back and told him he was a effing d*ckhead...he called me back and said he wanted to sodomise me...however not that politely!!!

Received same call as all the above for 2 days in a row.It is now 28th April 2016 - obviously still going on! Notifying the ATO so they can report and hopefully catch these scumbags!

yep, just had the same prick on my landline. Told him he was full of sh*t and he hung up. Not before I got a ph number , an ID number and a name.....all phony I bet but I'll call the cops with the info and see if they would like to follow that up. Surely impersonating an ATO officer is fraud enough....

SCAM claiming to be from the ATO. Stating arrest for unpaid tax & fraud.

rang me constantly every 15mins for 2 hours today. ignored them thanks to this app

I received 6 calls within 15 min from this number. Threatening recorded message!
Have blocked them and will report.

I have had this number continuously ring me again and again and then a private number ring me after they can't get through with their number

Yep just had recorded call threatening me,supposed to be ATO,called back got busy signal.phoned real ATO told them ,report goes to fraud squad .hope they get sh*t for brains and lock him away.

Just received the automated message today - still happening.

Received call, obviously a scam, but called the number., Sounded like a call center They claiming to be the ATO office, I told them I would contact the ATO myself to discuss this matter further, and hung up. Information given to ATO dept

Yes - I had the misfortune to listen to Jason's crap today too. I rang the ATO and they have lodged a SCAM investigation on the number and name. Tried to call him back but he is no longer answering my calls - shame.
