Caller type: Scam call
Location: Australia
I received a call from a blocked number.

An Indian person asked to talk to me mentioning my full name.

He said that he received my details from Microsoft because my Windows Media Services were compromised and that they are assigned by Microsoft to Remotely Assist the infected customers to remove the malicious software from their PC.

I asked what is the Computer ID that is having the problem and he took the time to give me letter by letter the following 32 digit ID referring to it as Microsoft Computer Licence Number:

888DCA60FC0A11CF 8F0F00C04FD7D062

I asked him for a phone number to call them when I check if their details are genuine and he happily gave me the following call centre number: 1800 431 401

He also gave me their company name: Max PC Export.

I asked him how would the problem be resolved and he said that they will connect to the PC and they will resolve it with a remote desktop connection.

I told him that I will check these details and I will call their call centre for verification and proceed if everything is OK.

He said thank you and we hang up.

================================================================================

The communication was very persuasive and a user that is not very experienced could fall into their trap.

================================================================================

1) After googling their Company Name I did not find anything about this company.

2) After googling their phone number I found the above posts - but since the calling number was blocked his phone number is definitely another one.

3) After googling the Microsoft Computer Licence Number I found the following:

https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-security/i-received-a-call-from-someone-claiming-to-be/f446dc12-541a-4dc9-8324-eebf251c4c4f?auth=1

So it a scam call.

He called on a blocked number.but gave me the number to check the business is a real one and so I can call if I need anything. He had a strong Indian accent but had good communication skills.
The caller had my name and said they did tech support for me previously. I did not remember them, also he did not know what type of system I have. He wanted to do a systems check, and I am assuming load a program to 'check' my system.
I declined the offer for 2 reasons ether it
1. is a malicious scam- or
2. telemarketing trying to sell me something.
