This number came up as a help desk or support number for a failed log-in attempt into Trend Micro security software website that I have previously purchased. The website must be false. I called the number they installed a downloaded file to access my computer then said that I had unprotected internet connections after opening cmd.exe and performing a netstat command. They wanted $299 for two years of protection. I said I needed to check my current subscription and they hung up. I deleted the downloaded file allowing them access, downloaded Trend Micro Internet Security successfully through the correct website and did a full scan. I also change my password for my computer log-in and for my Trend security account. The person had an Indian accent. This is a scam!

On My brand new computer I thought I had logged into McAfee to open my account and download the virus software. But, I had been redirected to “McAfee login Australia” and told my account was temporarily suspended and to ring McAfee support on phone1800 041 143. This “support line” then asked for remote control of my pc to perform a “support scan”. I did this, but fortunately looked up this number whilst waiting on the “scan” and found these scam warnings and disconnected.

"Account temporary locked due to ERROR_x67549568_EndUserProfile_en_us. Please Call on this number 1800 041 143 for Instant Support."
Norton 'assistant' appeared on screen when I again attempted to log into Norton's Account. The assistant gave an identity Ricky Behl 1800 985 148 Ext-507. Provided on line help but the direction being taken was beginning to be invasive of my computer resources. I disconnected, and immediately logged in on another computer and reset my Norton Account and Identity Safe passwords. Smoke and mirrors?

Caller: I called them as per the description below.

I was trying to install Trend Micro on a brand new PC and received a pop-up with an error code and 1800 041 143 as Help Desk number for Australia. I called the number and got a fellow with a sub-continent accent who eventually attempted to sell me a life time subscription to Trend Micro Network Security $499.99. When I called the number there was music but no recording of announcing the company I had called.

Wanted to update my Norton on my PC, got an error message on my logging saying I should phone 1800 041 143 (from the Norton web site)

Phone and they tried scam for $399.00 to say that my PC was infected, put the phone down on them

Phone up the Norton number on their web site 1800 462 940 to complaint, only to be told they are not Norton only a tech company, which I found very disappointing

Suggest you tell all of you friends about the scam, as Norton knows about but is not prepared to tell its customers

My experience very similar to the person who was trying to download Trend Micro Security. I was trying to download Norton for computer and after an error message the 1800 041 143 number appeared for support. They asked for a screen sharing session and went onto take control of my computer. In the process I saw them change my password to the email account used as Norton sign in. They went on to say that my firewall had been compromised and that people were monitoring my activities. They even showed screenshots of suspicious activity including recent dates dotted on a graph. Also a list of a number of external hackers who had already managed to break through the firewall. They wanted me to pay yearly subscription of $399 to rebuild firewall which would apparently take technicians 2-3 hours.

I contacted AppleCare who provided the correct number of Norton Security. I spoke with eh technical support team who helped to finish the installation and then checked that no viruses had been planted onto my computer. They also gave it a full scan and nothing found.

Apparently the problem is not only purchasing fake and unnecessary protection, in the process they record your bank details and gain access to your email account.

I hope that word spreads to be careful....

1800 041 143 'computer support' displayed in message on search page stating PC locked and call this number for support to unlock, message appeared although I had run uptodate full system virus/malware scan 1 hour prior. Answers as computer support centre. My strategy is always to call from a blocked number, request their employee number and name. They present as having a phone queuing system in place
