This number was included in a clever SCAM email purporting to be from Origin energy.

Got an email to call this number but thought I would check here first, half say scam and half say legit? I checked my bills and it is the correct number for Origin so I will be calling. It's a sad world where we need to check a bloody phone number before we call for fear of being scammed.

Why would someone in the USA say this was a genuine Australian number ?????

I got same letter but I've Never dealt with Origin EVER...The letter said they are going to disconnect my Gas but I go through a totally different supplier/company and the letter was addressed to "The Occupier"

1- Origin is not known as Origin, they’re known as Origin Energy.

Caller: Text claiming to be from origin and quoting haven’t paid bill. Click on link etc to pay and this number provided. However I KNOW bills are paid and up to date. Very clever SCAM!!

Received a very realistic looking letter from Origin on what looks like their letter head. details appear correct, its telling me they have set up my account with them and giving me an account number. Has come through the post to my address. Guess next step will be to send me a bill. However I have had no dealings with origin at all so its a scam. Please BEWARE the letters come in an envelope that has Origin logo too. Its the most realistic scam I have seen. I reckon the scammer is reading these comments and fixing up the things said above that alert people that its a scam. I wonder what it is like to look in the mirror and know that you are a criminal. Is it something one is proud of? I would hate myself if I couldnt look at myself and my belongings and know that I worked honestly for many years to get where I am.

recieved an email with a bill to pay and it had this number to call for any questions checked here because my name was spelt wrong.

UPDATE: False alarm. 😅 Origin Energy have confirmed the text I received is legitimate and the 1300 number is indeed theirs (it appears on the Origin Energy site under My Account > Contact Us). A relief that scammers don’t have any of my Origin details in their possession. Nonetheless, Origin need to improve the wording of their billing reminders sent via text. Also, I believe providers generally need to stop including active links in texts to customers.

Text message received from company purporting to be Origin. Multiple red flags in the text:
🚩Grammar/wording was off, so my suspicions were immediately raised.
🚩The stated outstanding balance was incorrect, however – and most worryingly – the account number in the text was accurate.

A link to arrange payment was also included. The contact number provided was this one, however I can’t easily verify that this number is referenced on any official Origin Energy website. Another 🚩.

I knew I was being scammed so I automatically stopped paying them the $80 fortnightly plan they tried hooking me up with🤬🤬.
If you read the sent email thoroughly you’ll spot their errors and threats to disconnect your electricity. Sometimes you just have to follow your gut instinct.

received an email advising my account was overdue. Im on a payment plan, so it didnt sit right with me and investigated further. This number is a scam. If your sure your bill was paid, dont fall for this
