No caller ID, scam, and those who say it’s real, they are apart of the scam!

I believe this is a tax office number.
As with anything in government they are from another planet.
It gives you 2 days to call them back.
I dont answer private numbers and they should have a text instead.
I got the voicemail on the phone instead and rang the number where you have to type in the tax file number or the abn etc.
I inherited my phone so I dont even know who they are calling let alone what about.
So what do I type in?
No doubt countless hours of my life lost yet to come.
Just as well they are a monopoly.
The only union not to have its membership collapse? Public service.

Legitimate number for the ATO. It's provided on the ATO website (https://www.ato.gov.au/about-ato/contact-us/), and was provided by the caller with a reference number to call back.

It's the lodgement support number. Scammers may indeed be using it, but the ATO does for sure, too.

when you get a call late in the day its natural to think it could be a scam following numerous similar calls in recent times,perhaps a local number would give some confidence when answering,

Its the ATO only, this ph numb is listed in their website, but the qns they have asked more sounded like scam, asking step by step all your sensitive details.

It certainly is not a scam. They have this number listed on their ATO website. I have called this number and it is legit.

Just because you are retired does not mean that you don't have to lodge. Unless you have submitted a future return not necessary, you need to lodge.

If indeed it was the ATO, which seems the case as the phone number is on their website, then they should email people via MYGOV BEFORE RANDOMLY CALLING PEOPLE...the Indian accent, unfortunately, has no legitimacy for most Australians who have and still do endure scam phone calls from people who seem to ALL HAVE INDIAN ACCENTS. Sorry but true! Email/send letter before calling please!

Definitely ATO just

Said they were from the Tax Office, Indian man I spoke to, I hung up, SCAM.

The Tax office confirmed the reference number given at the time of the call (asking me to call back on this number) was from them even though the phone number is no where on their site. I asked is this ph number I was asked to call legitimate. They "would not" confirm it but asked for the reference number I was provided with to verify the original call contained a legitimate reference number.

Caller: No one

Just because you have retired doesn't mean that you don't have to lodge a tax return. If you are receiving a pension, or have investments, you may still need to lodge a tax return. Doesn't mean that you will need to pay tax, but you still need to lodge a return.

Caller: Supposedly someone from Australian ATO

This girl who called - exceptionally polite I will say - knew my name - most insistent that I tell her my date of birth to confirm she was actually speaking with the correct person. Could not reveal the purpose of her call until I told her. (no way). Please phone 1300 661 508 with a 13 digit long reference number. Call originated from a private number. SCAM I told her.

Claimed to be the Australian Dentention Office lookong for my son to call back. The voice mail message was extremely dodgy

Scam, got a call from a blocked number quoting this ATO 1300 661 508 number. Checked my ATO online and it doesn’t show any outstanding matter nor recent communications from the ATO (if unsure all comms from the ATO to you are recorded on your online ATO/myGov account). Wasted my time but won’t get my money. Be careful!
