I receive a call from the above number on my house phone quite often, mind you my home number is meant to be silent.
They don’t leave a message and when I call back they don’t answer.

Definitely a scam.

the do not call register doesn't apply to non profit organizations and charities, lovely loophole they have there to get around the do not call register.

Caller: Rural fire service of queensland

hi i just received a call about 10 minutes ago from somebody claiming to be from the rural fire service.so i rang the rural fire service and spoke to them, asked them if this number is indeed form them,he confirmed yes it is a genuine call from the rural fire service, and he even went as far as to tell me he was in Gympie.he said on the website you can look the numbers up they use to call and they are indeed actively raising funds at the moment.so if you do get a call from this number it is the rural fire service.

I just googled it ...I asked if the rfb solicits donations via ph it said its there policy not to use phones for donations but the do sell tickets via ph once a year... shame on the scammers i hope there houses burn down i havent answered my home or plugged it in for nearly 4 years now due to harrassing ph calls from so called charities. once you put your name down to stop callers your number gets handed out to all the charities omg it was 10 times worse. Ive had the rural fire brigade call my mobil a few times i tell them i wont give details over phone... end of story. Ive told them if there is a bank i can donate in person or do they have adresss in my area i am happy to donate ....you guess it....they say you have to give your credit card details to them there is no other was.... i call that bullsh*t ... scammers

Caller: RFBAQ

RFBAQ - Rural Fire Brigades Association of Queensland - they raise funds for all the volunteer rural fire fighters throughout Qld.
I have told RFBAQ on numerous phone call occasions, this is what I do in my retirement.(For the past 6 years, I have been / AM a RFS volunteer.)
I am unaware of any funding from RFBAQ direct to my brigade.

Must Haves:
Uniforms / PPC, Fuel, tyres, major service and repairs etc ARE paid for by the Qld Government & QLD taxpayer through levies and other funding.

Nice to Haves:
donated / Grants from various companies and entries

Other things we do for ourselves.

And YES the QLD Govt does A LOT ON THE CHEAP OR NOT AT ALL

It is not Rural Fire Brigade Queensland - not their number. I just don't understand what the caller gets from making a call then hanging up? I have my number listed on DO NOT CALL register and it's worthless

Buy a Call Guardian telephone for $48 from Telstra and no mongrel scam callers will get your telephone to ring. I have had mine for three years, and during that time, not one mongrel has been able to contact me.

Caller: Didn't answer it.

I must be the biggest a**hole on the planet, as I do not answer phone numbers that I do not already have stored in my phone, with the exception of private numbers. Called this morning, 11:41. On answering, a female Australian voice (real person) went through some sort of introduction. No idea what she said (I have a problem with Female Australian accents) so asked her to repeat more slowly and clearly. "Oh, I'd better let you go then" and hung up.

May have been calling from a real number, in which case, the Telcos should maintain a shared auto-block database or it may have been spoofed number. Outside possibility it was legitimate but I doubt it.

I answered the call and was told that the person was raising funds for RFS and they were auctioning off a 4WD through raffle tickets. They were clearly reading from a script. I told the person that I currently donate to my local SES group and they hung up. While I cannot say for certain if this was a scammer or not, it is unfortunate in this day and age there are so many people trying to scam others that it is hard to sort through who is legit and who isn't. If it was the RFS I do hope they look at different options for trying to raise funds because many people may want to help but like me, will not do so over the phone.
