I never answer the landline now - wait to see if they leave a message.
If no message - assume scam.
I suggest get rid of your landline - the only way to avoid ALL scam calls.
Telcos won't do anything ... they actually want you to get off landlines (no profit in it) & use mobile.
Governments are not interested in helping.

Indian dude on bad line called & said they’re calling about tax incentives & asked if i was the home owner. I said no & he hung up. Out of curiosity i tried to call the number back & Optus advises the number has been disconnected. Hmmm

I have had 5 calls from the above phone number today. The first one was about a tax rebate and caller wanted to know all about our income, work status etc, I made everything up to see how far this went then got bored and hung up. The next 4 calls I just hung up without saying a word. I could here other people in the background making calls. It appeared to be an Indian call centre.

answer the call and then leave you phone off the hook for an hour or so, they then cannot call back out, lets all teach them a lesson.

They called me twice in the one day. When i first picked up, the line was quiet, then a foreign sounding person starts rambling on about a tax rebate for a working person who owns their own home. I think they're overseas scammers.

Indian gentleman called "Kelvin" calling from the ATO to tell me about changes to the taxation system and how he was going to help me. All I had to do was give my full name for identification, age, home address & also needed my tax file number to make sure they were talking to the right person. Just how stupid do they think we all are?!

Called at 7pm on a Friday nightstating it was associated with Gov Tax Benefits for Home owners & wanted details if I was employed and owned my own home. “Just a few simple questions and we can assess if you’re eligible for the tax rebate.

An Indian voice asking questions about home ownership.
However, I'm on the The Do Not Call Register so how do they get my number.

I agree so much I get my dog to start barking and put the phone near her and make them go deaf in the ear it's so much fun or I keep a whistle near the phone and when they call I blow the whistle and it makes them go deaf the only problem with that it makes the household go deaf too.

Have gotten several calls from this number this week. When I pick up there’s silence, then a recorded voice says “goodbye” and the call is disconnected.

Usual overseas call centre delay before "Steve" with an Indian accent came on the phone and asked for me by name! He claimed to be calling about solar panels. It was at that point that I gave him a loud blast on a referee's whistle I keep near the phone for that purpose, told him to F*** OFF and hung up.
