Caller: Scammer Pretending To Be AAMI

Received a scam call from someone pretending to be AAMI. They knew my name and had detailed information about my claim, including the incident date and damage to both vehicles. They asked me to confirm my full name, DOB and phone number, then insinuated I had been found at fault and needed to pay money. I contacted AAMI directly, who confirmed the call was not from them and told me to disregard it. Very concerning that the caller had so much information about my claim. Please be careful and verify any calls directly with AAMI.

I opened an incoming call from Brisbane on my mobile phone without saying anything. The person at the other end didn't speak. I hung up and there was no return message --- it's a SPAM!

Missed call & searched number... likely scam.
I called AAMI (my insurer) who had no record of a missed call to me regarding my current car repair.

Caller: Aami

Answered the phone, Aussie lady said she was from AAMI conducting an audit on previous claims. She brought up a claim I had for a water leak a few years ago, and said she could see that I was paid out for damaged contents but not for the repair of the pipe which I confirmed to be correct. She asked how much I paid a plumber to fix the leak itself , which I gave her the amount. She said she will re open my claim and process a payment for that amount to my nominated bank account (which I no longer use , has no money on it, but is still active) so I said yep that’s fine. Searched the number here and saw a lot of people think it’s a scam , I’ve actually checked my aami app and the claim from a number of years ago is now showing as active/re opened. I think it’s highly likely that this is legitimate now. On the off chance it is a scam , that bank account is empty anyway and if the money comes then that will prove its legitimacy. I am waiting for an email which she said I should receive confirming it all this morning. Wait and see.

Caller: Suncorp/AAMI Insurance

I was wary but given that I have been dealing with an AAMI car insurance claim over the past two days I am of the opinion that this is a genuine call from a call centre on behalf of AAMI, part of the Suncorp Group. The caller had my information but wanted to know if I had any further information about the claimant, because I am contesting the claim.
Like many people though, I am of the opinion that banks, insurance companies and other financial institutions using call centres need to be much more strictly regulated. The caller should be required to identify themselves, the organization they are acting for, and why they are calling you, because scammers are getting smarter every day. And it should be a requirement that call centres should be in Australia, employing Australians. I am fed up with having to try and understand callers with broad sub-continent accents.

Thick foreign accent -- could not understand her. I THINK she said "is this is a convenient time" I said "no" and ended the call. The same number rang back about 30 seconds later, which I did not take (as it really wasn't a convenient time). Having read these comments, I do have a current claim with AAMI and subsequently received a text message, quoting another number to call back on and quoting my claim number. The 1300 number they want me to ring back on is NOT AAMI's normal number. I simply don't know if it's a scam or not -- I'll call AAMI on their publicly advertised number.

Caller: A female with an Imdian accent.

Something about insurance. Could not get the company name as her accent is so hard to understand. Must be a scam as I have no insurance claims in and if it is from Suncorp or AAMI as some have said, I have no business with either company.

Caller asked to verify my details before releasing any information. I asked to provide a claim, which they couldn't until I verified my information. I told her you called me and should have all the details and I had a case manager for my claim.

“ This is Prateek calling you from GIO Motor Insurance.”

Prateek couldn’t answer anything about “the matter” so I wished him well.

It's a legitimate call from suncorp insurance . My client is making a claim and selected me to do the repairs . When they first called , I almost hung up on them , could only make out some of their bad english . Wanted me to change the Suncorp to AAMi on the quote. Started talking goblin again ,before I said email me the changes required .
