Caller: “alinta energy”

got a text claiming to be Alinta Energy, saying i had an overdue bill with a link to pay and another phone number to call 1300 403 205)

Fairly sure it’s a scam as i called them and the dates she was giving me didn’t add up as well as her pressuring me to pay now over the phone

Fake, SCAM CLAIMING I OWE MONEY AS MY ELECTRICITY BILL IS OVERDUE. Unfortunately these scammers have my genuine account number!!!!!

Absolutely is not fake or a scam. I did have a small debt on closing my account, the supposed scammer knew the amount owing and the account number. I was more concerned with a data breach than anything else.

I STUPIDLY submitted payment by following the link provided via SMS, realised what I'd done, and called Alinta.

I learned that this isn't a very transparent process at Alinta and no one could really answer my questions. I decided to wait for the payment to clear so I could lodge a process with my bank, however I noticed the payee showed as Alinta, checking some time later the amount has come off my Alinta account balance.

They could do a better job of branding the number, and it really isn't good practice sending payment links via SMS.

I got the same message, it is FAKE
