Caller: NAB Fraud This is not a scam! I thought it was after coming to this sight so ignored the message initially. My card was temporarily blocked, I found out the hard way when it was declined when I tried to use it next. I phoned NAB fraud from a number I got from their website and they confirmed it is them and my card had a suspicious transaction on it which they blocked. Please don’t ignore!

Called back NAB through the NAB app. Confirmed that there were $3k worth of fraud attempts on the card today. They cancelled the card and issued a new one. Reflecting in the NAB app too. My advice, call NAB using the number on the website if you are sceptical but don’t ignore this message. Will save you a lot of trouble later on.

From NAB Website:
"If we detect suspicious activity, we may send an automated SMS to confirm the transaction with you. This SMS will come from either 0438 357 801 or 0447 153 051.
If you receive this SMS from us, please respond with either:
‘1’ if you authorised the transaction and we’ll automatically remove the block on your card ‘0’ if you didn’t authorise the transaction, we’ll then send a follow up SMS and one of our fraud specialists will call you shortly after.
If the original transaction was declined, you can try again after responding to the SMS."

Go to link: https://www.nab.com.au/about-us/security/fraud-scams. Or go to NAB website, search the phone number and click on the search result. Once there, expand "You've received a suspicious email, SMS or phone call". The number is listed there as one of the two that NAB uses for automated SMS notification.

Caller: NAB Received a text message from this number claiming to be NAB regarding fraudulent transactions on our NAB credit card. I was in doubt, so I called NAB and confirmed it was a legitimate message. Of course, if in doubt, always call to verify yourself using an inbound call to a published phone number.

Caller: Scammer This is definitely a well planned scam. I have a NAB account and logged on to check just to make sure after receiving this text, it turns out someone had used my account internationally to make an unknown transaction for a large amount. So the text from this number would seem legit by this point but they are just trying to get your details to your accounts so that they can get more money from you. Don't be a fool.
Go through the processes NAB has in place for scammers. Call the numbers on their websites rather than calling from this text.

Caller: NAB I recieved an SMS from this number (19/09/2023) and went to my local NAB branch to confirm if the SMS was geniune. At the branch a quick check confirmed there were two unauthorised transactions using my credit card that were blocked by the bank. At the local branch I enterd '0' in response to the SMS confirming that the transaction was not by me. Subsequently, I was contacted by the NAB Fraud group to talk me throught the next steps and to formally cancel my credit card. I suggest confirming suss SMS's emails' via 132265 and request 'Fraud Assistance'. It was also suggested to go to scamwatch.com.au for info on types of scams.

Caller: nab While this number is legitimate according to nab's website, this is a very poor way of advising of a potentially fraudulent transaction. My wife tried to make a payment and it was rejected saying that the phone number didn't match. Her phone number has never changed. As she is the secondary card holder, the credit card is not available in the nab app to receive messages there. I am the primary card holder and did not receive any notification. I recommend that everyone who receives a message from this number complains to nab to get them to implement a method that does not look like a scam.

Says from NAB about suspicious transaction for a card ending xxxx however NONE of my cards end in those numbers. This has to be a scam. I do not believe the other posts here claiming it is legitimate, especially the post I saw that says it is NAB posting here. SCAM! Find the correct number from the NAB website and call, do not call the number in the text message.

Caller: NAB automated SMS I received a SMS from this number reporting a suspicious transaction on my card ending in xxxx. They used my name and asked me to respond with 1 to indicate it was authorised by me or 0 if it wasn’t. From NAB website it states: “If we detect suspicious activity, we may send an automated SMS to confirm the transaction with you. This SMS will come from either 0438 357 801 or 0447 153 051” After checking my banking app there was a suspicious pending transaction so I called NAB on 132265 (always check official bank website or the number on your card) and they confirmed there was a suspicious transaction which they had stopped and blocked my card. They then issued a new card.

Caller: NAB An SMS from 0438 357 801 is definitely from NAB (National Australia Bank) and is warning of a suspicious transaction on your account. I received the SMS, responded "0" to say the transaction was not authorised. The message then said they would contact me, but rather than waiting, I rang the NAB direct (Fraud section) and they confirmed the SMS was from them and they had stopped my card. They then suggested they cancel my card and issue a new one (sad at Christmas time but I will cope). It appears that when I attempted to buy something on the web and supplied my Visa Card details, the transaction was rejected (or so it said). I think what happened is they (the fraudsters) did not fulfill the order (scam) but instead tried to obtain a much larger amount (over $350-00 when I had "ordered" just $90-00 of goods) from my card (under a different name). Fortunately NAB are on the ball and stopped it in their tracks. I have the habit of every day checking my Visa balance online and if it is in debit, checking the transactions and transferring enough from my checue account over into my Visa to put it in CREDIT $10-00. That way I see every transaction (used to miss some when there were hundreds on the monthly statement) and I also avoid any interest charges (haven't been charged in over 20 years now...LOL) That is I think smart control of your account (always p[ay by Paypal if possible, else use Visa for everything then keep balance in credit). So.....the answer is THIS IS NOT A SCAM SMS and the best thing to do is contact NAB direct, arrange for your card to be cancelled and a new one issued, then be VERY wary of using Visa/Mastercard on any new site you have not used successfully before.
