to everyone saying this is not a scam because the numbers match- you are incorrect.
The scammers are spoofing the NAB number. The SMS asks you to call a number, and this is the scammers number- does not match NAB, but the SMS appears to come from NAB. It didn't...

same happened to me today !!!

An SMS from 0438 357 801 is definitely from NAB (National Australia Bank) and is warning of a suspicious transaction on your account. I received the SMS, responded "0" to say the transaction was not authorised. The message then said they would contact me, but rather than waiting, I rang the NAB direct (Fraud section) and they confirmed the SMS was from them and they had stopped my card.
They then suggested they cancel my card and issue a new one (sad at Christmas time but I will cope). It appears that when I attempted to buy something on the web and supplied my Visa Card details,
the transaction was rejected (or so it said). I think what happened is they (the fraudsters) did not fulfill the order (scam) but instead tried to obtain a much larger amount (over $350-00 when I had "ordered" just $90-00 of goods) from my card (under a different name). Fortunately NAB are on the ball and stopped it in their tracks.
I have the habit of every day checking my Visa balance online and if it is in debit, checking the transactions and transferring enough from my checue account over into my Visa to put it in CREDIT $10-00.
That way I see every transaction (used to miss some when there were hundreds on the monthly statement) and I also avoid any interest charges (haven't been charged in over 20 years now...LOL)
That is I think smart control of your account (always p[ay by Paypal if possible, else use Visa for everything then keep balance in credit).
So.....the answer is THIS IS NOT A SCAM SMS and the best thing to do is contact NAB direct, arrange for your card to be cancelled and a new one issued, then be VERY wary of using Visa/Mastercard on any new site you have not used successfully before.

SMS scam pretending to be Nab cards. However, do check your NAB cards as I do have a suspicious debit transaction but not for the amount in this message. Oddly the SMS scam came in the same day as the fraudulent NAB debit. The big problem at the moment is, I cannot get through to NAB fraud services via phone or messaging to get it checked and card stopped.They are inundated thanks to this scam.

The SMS message is legitimate. Do not ignore it - i did and my card was blocked. It took a lot of effort to get the card unblocked

My wife had a message from 0438 357 801 at 4.40 am this morning. "We have noticed an unusual transaction on your NAB visa card ending in xxxx for $26.99. I found this message to be suss, however, we checked out the bank account and there have been multiple transactions at the Metro Service Station on the great western HWY at St Marys, NSW. This number is a genuine NAB number. But usually, any messages from NAB would show the contact as NAB... Well I thought it would have anyway

If you receive an automated SMS from NAB on the above numbers asking you to confirm a recent transaction, please respond:

‘1’ if you have authorised the transaction and we will automatically remove the block on your card
‘0’ if you did not authorise the transaction and one of our fraud specialists will call you shortly after (from a different number).

If the original transaction was declined but you have since authorised it via SMS using the steps above, you will need to re-attempt.

Had fraudulent activity on my account, got an SMS from someone appearing to be from NAB, but I've had texts from NAB before about suspicious credit card activity, and this was not from that number. Called NAB's Fraud department and cancelled my card and launched an investigation.
Regardless of whether this was from NAB or not, I did not reply, I recommend using NAB's official website to contact them, as it's the safest way.

Legitimate SMS from NAB, regarding an unusual transaction on my Visa card and my card had been blocked. Checked with NAB who confirmed this.

the number on the website instead of responding to the text… something the text should actually suggest as I initially wrote it off as a scam, but multiple business transactions with suppliers were declined which made me follow up directly with NAB.

Received a test message from this number regarding a suspicious transaction on my NAB card. Checked my account online and it matched with the details on the text. It was a genuine text from NAB. I reply 0 to confirm the transaction was not authorised by me and they called me shortly later to sort everything out (such as issue of new card).

Genuine sms text alerting me to fraudulent activity on my credit card and asking for a response, which I gave as I checked my account online and there was suspicious activity. I was called back by the bank who then dealt with the fraud. This is NOT a scam - genuine number. I did not need to give them details beyond my full name - they had my address, email, confirmed the other card-holder's name from the info they already had, so not phishing.
