I just got this message today. I call it a scam!!
It was addressed to a name i have never heard of.
I owe no money anywhere, no do i deal with Vodafone or Optus (never have, never will).
This message originated from 0400 973 623 & asked to call CCC on 1300 731 166 & quote a number to prevent escalation.

It isn't necessarily a scam. I know I owed money to Vodafone - when I cancelled my service I knew I had money owing so went back to website to pay but as service was cancelled they wouldn't let me back into my account to finalise and no invoice was sent to me - kinda ridiculous right? Anyway, Vodafone uses these guys to collect money owed to them. Not a scam in my case. Cheers.

I just had a call from commercial credit control and they are legit. I even went to the bank just to be on the safe side. Bank suggested that before making any payment make sure they send you a receipt via email scammers wont want to send you anything.

They're still alive and kicking.
Just got the same SMS as most of you.
It's from the same number, asking to call 1300 885 119 and quote some number to them.
Message is addressed to a former colleague but on my mobile number. There is very little in the world that would link his name with my number (Just and MSDN subscription as far as I can see).
I wonder if we could trace it back to the source that sells names and numbers like this, and return the favour? :o)

Have rec'd two texts from this number, I can see from above comments some have called and some have just deleted. Can I just block this number from my phone?

This is a debt collector for Optus and Vodafone. They are located on the Gold Coast and are so annoying. They break the debt collection laws constantly.

Does anyone know how they get the name to match the number?

It's not a scam. The real dodgy people are the ones giving your phone number to a debt collection agency. I got a similar text to the ones already described and decided after looking on here to just call them to find out what was going on. The guy was friendly and apologised for the mistake. He said he'd take my number off the registry as well so I won't get called/texted again. Easy fixed.

Getting texts from CCC, with another person's name. Figure it is spam and deleting all the time and will continue to do so

I just received the same thing from 0419 697 574 asking me to urgently call a 1300 number.. also stated it was not a marketing message.. rookie scammers

I just received a similar message asking me to call 1300 731 166 and to quote 56XXXX. It looks like the scam is still alive....wonder how we can get Telstra to shut the mobile no.

I've also received an SMS from this number0419 697 574).
However, I've had two calls previous to this where they say they are from CCC (but the phone number is blocked) and ask for my date of birth. They get quite upset when I tell them I'm not giving that information out to some random person calling me.

Received a sms/spam from them that said:
"URGENT. We have made previous attempts to contact you. You must now call Commercial Credit Control on 1300 731 166 quoting file number 55****"
I find this very strange I as don't have any debts and very few people have my number (it's my work phone). And no one tried to contact me in any form.

I think it's spam. I got a missed call then text messages.
The phone numbers they used don't match the phone number on that QLD agency website.
As far as I know, I don't have any existing debts. So probably dodgy.

I recon this number is spam, ask me to call 1300 731 166 urgently, they call themselve "commercial credit control", but after you call, they will ask for your personal information,but after I insist not giving out my personal info, they said they got the wrong name!!!!!! be careful!

Got a sms from this # asking me to call a different # and quote a specified # for some debt collection agency, that is meant to be in Qld.
I am wondering if this is a dodgy spam, made to seem legit or not? cause there is some website under the other #, that does not give much away. If it is what I think, then it was already paid & no more recent postal letters were sent, which is what was meant to happen.
I think it might be dodgy, but I'm not sure.
