I do not nor have I ever had a Vodaphone account, not my name and I owe them nothing ... They left a text message quote:
"For Zhengyu Gan only. Dear Zhengyu, we are an authorised collection agent for Vodafone and have been advised that despite previous requests for payment, you still have an outstanding account balance in the amount of $243.90. Your account balance has been outstanding for some time and must be paid immediately. Should this account not be paid, our Client reserves its right to inform relevant CREDIT REPORTING BODIES of this default. By paying your outstanding balance, you will avoid the possibility of LEGAL ACTION being taken against you to recover this debt. All enquiries are to be made directly to Commercial Credit Control Pty Ltd. Further collection action can be avoided by paying the account via this link: http://goo.gl/2dIl33 using Credit Card Payment ID 24823338 or by contacting us NOW on 1300 29 8141 quoting file #2482333. Do not reply by SMS."

This is CCC, I found out they are getting your details from TICA to harass you. You should give TICA a call on (02) 9743 1800 or Acceleon on (03) 9670 9797 to get your data removed.

Blame CreditSoft for sharing data between TICA, Acceleon, and the pesky debt collector 1300 720 164

Scam. Claim to be debt collectors from a phone company that I’ve never used. Want personal info. Have called me so many times. Wish I knew how to make them stop. I guess real debt collectors are persistent too. But these aren’t real debt collectors as I don’t have any real debts.

SCAM. I have pre--paid, I don't own Vodaphone anything. The people saying otherwise are probably in on it themselves

100% scam. Optus obviously passes on personal information once you leave there company. Do not be tricked into thinking you owe them money, that’s what they count on! I owe them no money, I opened an account with Optus in my name for a friend who at the time did not have a credit rating as she just moved to the country, and then had it transferred into her name 6 months later. One night I received a scam call claiming I owe Optus money, then my friend received a call minutes later from same caller, so they definitely obtained my personal information from Optus. This was over 6 months ago and I still have a perfect credit rating. Please don’t be fooled! I can’t believe the amount of scam calls I’ve had since leaving that company!

Commercial Credit Control is a legitimate existing debt collection agency BUT these smses are not from them. The phone numbers they give in the smses do not match that companys legitimate contact numbers. Also, the go to pay at dodgy links like bit.ly are red flag. I owe no money to Optus, and i verified with them directly, avoid msgs like this.

We are an authorised collection agent for Optus and have been advised that despite previous requests for payment, you still have an outstanding account balance in the amount of $407.35. Your account balance has been outstanding for some time and must be paid immediately. Our Client may have default listed this account with the relevant credit reporting bodies. If this action has not yet been taken and this account remains unpaid, our client reserves the right to do so. By paying your outstanding balance, you will avoid the possibility of LEGAL ACTION being taken against you to recover this debt. All enquiries are to be made directly to Commercial Credit Control Pty Ltd. Further collection action can be avoided by paying the account via this link: https://bit.ly/Optus_CCC using File Number 2842278 or by contacting us NOW on 1300 933 409 quoting file #: 2842278. Please do not reply by SMS as this INBOX IS UNMONITORED.

Received an SMS from this number stating we owe money from our old Internet account. We have closed the account properly almost 2yrs ago without any outstanding balance in that account. Suddenly they accused us owing money. Maybe they need a better communication system between the provider company and the debt collector agent, rather than giving the customer inconvenience. We always paid our bill on time, never failed. The SMS sounded like a scam as well.

I first received a call from a blocked number, with a guy who first claimed to be from optus, and a minute later said he was from a collection agency. The call felt dodgy, and I was pretty certain I didn’t owe optus any money as I transfered over to prepaid six months ago. I told the guy in the phone that I would go into an optus store and sort the matter out in person. I had a strong feeling it was a scam, so I did nothing, and ignored any calls coming in from a private number.

A few days ago I received a text message from this number, again claiming I owed Optus money, and giving me a link to click to do a transfer. Mega dodgy.

So I called optus customer support, and the lady who helped me out laughed. She checked my account and confirmed there was nothing owing. I’ve given her all the information from the text message and she is sending it off to a team to be investigated.

That just means they are looking for the person who owned the mobile numebr before you did. Hence why they asked for a different name. happens all the time. I used to work for Optus credit team.

I got 3 texts at the same time from this number for a person that I don’t even know. One said I owe $807.88 and the other said I owe $2342.20.

Not bad considering I have a pre paid sim for that number and it is only used to give my daughter access to the WiFi.

If a debt collector calls you, chances are that they have bought the debt off the company that you allegedly had the debt with in the first place, for cents in the dollar and are now attempting to extort it from you. Once they have purchased the debt from the previous company it is their responsibility NOT yours. It then falls into equity law. They're now trustee of the trust of the debt (which is created when contracts are entered into) and you don't owe them anything (you are no longer the trustee of the debt once they purchase it). Look into this further and be educated about what these vultures do and how they operate. This is the basis of their industry - to buy debts for cents in the dollar and get the full amount plus interest out of you - if they can!
