Total scammer, same as the posts above I called the number, Disconnected. This guy is still about for so long with the same number. Useless police catch me for doing 4 kms over the speed limit though! 😤

Same with me. Used WhatsApp to contact me about an item on Gumtree. Same story about being sick. It made me very suspicious so I Googled the number. Thank goodness.

Same story, sent Auspost link asking for bank details offering to facilitate the entire delivery at his own cost. Auspost website looks legit but is missing '.com.au'

Same person scamming vulnerable people with little tech knowledge.
When in doubt, google the number.

Contacted via WhatsApp about my item for sale on Gumtree, said he couldn't pick up. Looked here and blocked and reported immediately.

The sam just happened to me. "Alex Mitchell" messaged me on WhatsApp and sent me details to a gumtree ad I had put up saying “ I can't pick up in person, but I can arrange delivery. I will arrange everything myself and pay all expenses. bank transfer suit you?”. I was also suspicious and said paypal only. I sent him a screen shot of this page, and haven't heard back!!!!

Same happened to me. Messaged on WhatsApp and sent me details to a gumtree ad I had put up saying “ I can't pick up in person, but I can arrange delivery. I will arrange everything myself and pay all expenses. bank transfer suit you?”. I was suspicious at this point and said I would do via pay pal. They did not reply after this. Thank goodness for this forum. Alex Mitchell appears to also be under the number 0485 841 846. Definitely a scam

Same experience as everyone here.
The WhatsApp number is 0485 841 846 - it may change though - but the number on the fake AusPost website in his personal details section is 0403 103 491.

He contacted me 13/14 July 2022 trying to convince me to give my credit card details to his special "Australia Post Delivery Service". I called Australia Post. This service does not exist. I reported him to Scams @ auspost.com.au
Australia Post will never ask for your credit card details online/ by phone call.

The number contacted me on gumtree about an item for sale, he almost had me but I clicked on the auspost link, it asked for my card details which isn't required if someone is paying you. Came to google to check the number and good thing I did. Stay safe everyone and stay wary.

I asked him to correspond via Gumtree but instead claimed to set up a courier collection through Australia Post where i receive payment first by providing my credit card details.

Same here. Same tactics, same name. Contacted my via WhatsApp about an item on Gumtree. Sent a link to dodgy site which asked for my credit card. Stopped responding when I asked to pay via Gumtree.

I posted items on gumtree and Alex replied via WhatsApp. Said he was going to send a courier to pick up the items and he'll pay now. Alex sent a auspost link and told me to enter the account I'd like to be paid into.. I immediately googled the number and wowzus! Thank goodness I did
