I advertised an item on gumtree, and had an enquiry from this so-called ‘Alex’ who claimed they were too sick to collect and would arrange postage and payment via Australia post, I clicked on the link and it requested credit card details where the money would be deposited. Stupid me did it, and had $400 taken out of my account. Do not do it!!!!

Claimed to be Alex. Contacted me via whatsapp for an item I had free to give away via Gumtree. Claimed to be sick. Wanted bank details so he could pay and arrange for courier. SCAM beware. Blocked.

Same thing happened to me. I got scammed unfortunately $4000 out of my bank accounts in 2 days

Wanted to purchase print I had on gumtree. Same thing was too sick to pick up. Lived in York WA.Could use auspost link. Look authentic I fell for it. Scammed my account. Rang the bank. Used what’s up app. Had the cheek next day sent a txt hello.

Just got contacted by him re a item for sale on gumtree. Said he was from Wagga The same story he is sick and sent a auspost link so he is still trying 4/3/2020

We have just been scammed in exactly the same way as above - via Gumtree and What'sApp by a man who calls himself Alex. We thought it sounded suss and contacted AusPost who confirmed the payment link is a very good fake. We have cancelled our credit card.

Same as everyone else told me they were sick couldn’t pick up googled there address and it was somewhere in ACT. SCAM!! Thank god website never actually worked and only contacted through WhatsApp wanted to deal through auspost safetrade trade safe website it doesn’t exist it’s a scam

Contacted via WhatsApp from a Gumtree ad. Refused to use Paypal when offered and instead wanted a Bank Transfer. Provided a link which I clicked on but it did not work and no bank details supplied (thank goodness). A nice touch just before Christmas.

PS - they said they were sick so could not pick up hence the AusPost, which they claimed they had a big discount for and that they live in Boonah (sure they do)

I've just been contacted today about an ad on Gumtree. Same as everyone else - contacted via WhatsApp and when I said payment could be made by PayPal asked for payment by the link (which did not work). They said their name was Alex and were too sick to pick up the goods, would use AusPost (as they got a big discount) and lived in Boonah. This makes me sick that someone would do this.

Messaged me on WhatsApp about books I was selling on Gumtree. He said he was sick and unable to do meetups or pickup, so offered to pay for postage. Searched for his number and saw these comments that he is a scammer.

Same happened today. Sent an Auspost link for goods collection that asked for credit card details. I made mistake of entering details and clicking submit button. It then kept refreshing without confirming details. So now cancelling credit card. Won’t get fooled again.
