I think the real scam here is Simply Energy. They have tried this on me. tried to get the bill paid twice. Eventually regardless of what I wrote we got to the day they were going to cut off my energy supply. I was more than angry and got on to the Energy and Water Ombudsman and complained. I then told Simply Energy what I had done. Their response was priceless. Asked why I did that and not talked to them first and get it all sorted. I now have a new supplier.

Same group that have been trying to scam me previously with faked Telstra bills. Check your details on the bills, they will not have all your correct information so there will be errors on them. I had reported them previously to the police and will again but the police didn't even get back to me.

I didn’t get any phone calls just a text message. Didn’t say my name just to call the 1300 number and quote reference number and to go to a website (with whispir.it/s/ in it) for more details. Seems very dodgy to me. I would think that if they were legit then the company supposedly owed money would notify you they’ve handed your case over to debt collectors. If I’m not notified by a legitimate company I know I owe money to that the case has been handed over and who to I don’t believe the debt collectors to be anything more than a scam.

from the probe group. The debt they are asking to collect is legit i know i owe agl about $200 but setting up payment plans with them they asked for the 3 digits on back of card and that made me uncomfortable. Upon contacting agl they said they indeed go through the probe group to deal with debts and seem to shrug of the fact Probe group asked for the cvc number.. soo i dunno i don't trust them but i know the debt was legit

I got a text message from probe with an obligation number. I called the first person asked for my phone number and said they'd call back. I asked them what this is about and the phone went silent until I hung up thinking it was a connection issue. Called back again. The guy asked me my full name and address I said that I didn't really feel comfortable providing that information because I don't know what this is about. Same silence occurred and the phone hung up after 20 seconds. If it is so legit then what's with the blackout as soon as you ask what they do?

I've had no other correspondence or any letters saying that I had a debt that was going towards a debt collector. I will definitely not be giving any money.

No calls yet. I received an email from this law firm saying I owed a debt. They had the wrong first name and I have never been anywhere near Australia. I have no debts, especially any that outsource debt collection.

I just got the same message 2 hours ago. I have no loans at all. I rang my solicitor and he advised me to delete it. If the solicitor wants to get intouch he/she will ring or write a letter

I didn't respond to it but deleted the message.

I also had received an email requesting my account details in response to master card enquiry. I certainly did not enquire about this and deleted message straight away.
This is so easy for someone not alert.

I really hope Imogen (who argues that indeed these guys are legit) is wrong because I have been under the assumption that no reputable organization in their right mind would behave in such a manner. As such, I have consistently ignored these guys. Examples are - random calls day and night from a call centre in Manila, refusal to provide any authentication on their part as to their proof of identity, hanging up the instant they are pressed for this information, refusal to agree to being recorded to name a few. I always put them on speaker phone when they call and it never ceases to keep my friends and colleagues hugely entertained at what appears to be a totally lame attempt to get my credit card details. Now I am worried that through their total unprofessionalism some random debt I have is actually going unpaid. Apparently I owe more than $1000 but less than $2000. If I give them $2000 they will notify me of how much I will get back. Surely, this can't be how a legit organization operates? Or am I so out of touch with the world of debt collecting that I have failed to realize that this is how they roll?

They contacted me by blocked number.

Did not say what it was about, so I refused to identify myself.

They said they would send a letter, I said fine "if it's rubbish then it will go in the rubbish"

At that stage I had no idea that these scum are debt collectors.

They emailed me.

It turns out that Telstra told them I owed them money - it is Telstra's records that are wrong - guess that happens when you outsource your IT to India.

So I told them who to talk to at Telstra who will verify that there should be no charge on my account and told them not to contact me again.

The next day another email - "we contacted Telstra", well they didn't do what I asked or I never would have heard from them again.

Why did they contact me instead of the Telstra agent?
Simple, they dont make any money from getting to the truth.

I will never pay these liars a cent!

I keep getting phone calls from someone named John, I have told him the person he is looking for no longer lives here and hasn't for over 3yrs but he keeps calling, I have passed on his details to the person he is looking for and he has been given a contact number for her but keeps ringing us, yes the home phone number here hasn't changed because the owner of the house lives here but if you have told them over 10 times the person you are looking for doesn't live here why keep ringing, I feel like he is harassing us, why doesn't he stop calling, people do move and some have passed on, we are not responsible for their what they owe, have told him so many times to stop calling but he won't, so over it
