Not a scam

Posted on August 22, 2015

This is the same business that owns (07) 5560 4900, i.e. Apple Marketing Group. This is a not for profit business that raises funds for legitimate charities. This is not a scam, nor is the Queensland number a scam. They have a website where you can check what they do, and if you call the number you are talking to real people. You can ask to stop receiving calls if you want to. The real problem are people who falsely claim that this is a scam number, because it is not.

Caller said I'd purchased raffle tickets recently (I had not) and wanted to follow up with me for other charitable causes. I gave her short shrift.

No. (03) 9222 2999 called me. Left a voice message saying "Hi this is Monica from (inaudible company name not Apple Telemarketing or the usual charities I get calls from via them) you purchased a ticket from us and we are having difficulty with the payment. Please call back on 1800 670 181. When I checked that1800 number out most of the entries for it were in foreign languages. I presume they expected me to call the 1800 number and give bank or credit card details to make good the so-called ticket transaction which I had not made. I believe they may be using the Apple Telemarketing number on this occasion and think this was a spam call.
