Scam caller spoke with foreign accent phishing for personal details

As per all other comments multiple calls from this number throughout the day and night.
We never answer calls not in phone directory.
Just comes under the category of annoying scammers.

We have reported this number and (03) 7042 8974 to the Telecommunications Industry Ombudsperson. They have an online complaints form as does Telstra so you can report these guys. A sick and disabled family member is getting hundreds of calls per month (12 last Saturday alone). We all have to try to stop harassment of sick people. Thank you for reporting them.

Called, I answered with my name. Hung up. Called later, asking for me by name. Said they were from the NHS, and wanted to replace my showerheads and doorknobs for free. Dodgy and definitely a scam. Told them no and hung up.
First call was definitely to get my name.

All my calls go to my answering machine, usually after 2 rings most scam calls drop off. This number waits till my message stops then AI says "Goodbye" leaving the machine to continue beeping. There have been 4 calls in the last 45minutes

Called me 8 times from this number. When I called back to complain, the number was not recognised. I would have to say definitely a scam or phishing.

These psychos simply will not give up. No one has ever answered their calls, the number's blocked, but they've called me at least five times today in the space of about three hours.

Told me I was getting free exhaust fans from the government and how many did I need. Hung up

Another day and another unrecognised number, no message left. Checked here... no surprises, now blocked. Agree with many sentiments that telcos etc surely have the technology to instantly scan a number as it passes through their system to see if it is even a legitimate connected number.

They didn't bother to leave a message when they attempted to call me today - naturally - but now I know that I need to block the number, along with the thousand others, because it's yet another one being used by lowlife scamming scum.
Please never answer calls from unknown numbers, ever, or this intolerable harassment of innocent people is never going to stop, it seems.
(There is no point in even mentioning the Do Not Call Register, people. If you signed up for it then you are well aware that it's not an international crime-fighting agency with jurisdiction in the countries where these scam centres are based. And what do you expect them to do? Track down organised crime gangs operating in Cambodia and using spoofed phone numbers, then threaten them with a $200 fine for breaking an Australian law?)
Just don't answer the phone, or call back either.
