Caller: PayPal This is actually PayPal. They called me because I owed them money due to a fee reversal.
If you get this call and don’t have a PayPal it’s just a wrong number and tell them so. They’re not trying to scam you. You’ll know if you owe PayPal a balance.

Caller: “ARL on behalf of PayPal” Called my mobile today 18.7.23 - from (03) 9000 3421. Answered call with “hello” and immediately it “rang” on the other end before it was answered. Because I had already said hello I waited to see what the person would say. A lady then said hello and asked if she was talking to *insert my nickname here*. I replied with “who’s calling”. She stated she was calling from “ARL on behalf of PayPal” and again asked if she was speaking with *nickname* I stated that she had called me so she should know who she has called. She assumed I was that person and proceed to say that the call was recorded etc and asked me to then confirm my full name. I advised I wasn’t going to do that. She followed up with “well for verification purposes and for me to continue with the call I need you to verify your full name”. I repeated I wasn’t going to provide that information. She huffed and sounded frustrated before I hung up.
I have been receiving text messages from “ARL on behalf of PayPal for years now”. Nothing has ever escalated because while I have a PayPal account, I have never used it, it has no credit or debts owing, and most importantly it is not in the name that these people are trying to claim it is in (they keep referring to my nickname, not my legal name and also refer to my maiden name not my married name)
Be safe out there people and DO NOT provide your information to places that you are not 100% certain they are legitimate. Reputable businesses, including banks, will not call you and ask you to verify your personal information like this.

Caller: Very Dodgy I answered and then it rang which was strange, there was a creepy sound like heavy breathing and then an Aussie chick came on and asked if I was X then said she was from PayPal, said the call would be recorded and then asked me to confirm my name, address and dob. I said why and she said it was something about PayPal and I told her I don't use PayPal and she huffed and said ok then and I hung up. Sad to think she could be doing this to loads of people.

Very strong Indian Accent and after her speal when I told her she was a Scammer she was silent. She was rude when I refused to give any details. Then claimed I would end up being arrested if I didn’t buy gift cards in store to the value of all my money. She also tried to get my credit card details over the phone. Aldo tried to claim she needed four points if ID to keep me from loving everything. She wanted my email to send and I click on a link. Aldo at beginning of call gave no name just she was from “PayPal”.AVOID AVOID AVOID!

Caller: ARL A phishing scam. They called and asked if they were speaking to (my first name), I said yes, and the woman introduced herself as working for ARL on behalf of PayPal, and that she needed to confirm my identity to proceed with a debt collection matter. I do have and use PayPal, but do not have a debt. Anyway, she asked for my full name and date of birth, which I wouldn't give. I said to her that if PayPal had an issue I would respond to an official email from them, and so she asked me to confirm my correct email. I told her that PayPal has all my details, and I would not be giving any over the phone so she hung up on me.

Caller: (03) 9000 3421 ARL????? This is ARL, they have sent me several text messages and an actual snail mail letter, claiming that I have a PayPal debt. I do have a PayPal account but in business name not my own, and it has a zero balance. Last week I contacted PayPal after checking my account and they assured me that it was bogus and asked me to forward the text messages to the Phishing department. ARL is well known for being one, if not the main, debt collection company that was used in the RoboDebt harassment of Centrelink clients. This is probably ARL being spoofed, butt if it is ARL hopefully they have not stooped so low as to be scamming people. A good way to get scammer to stop talking to you if you do accidently answer the phone when they call, when they go into their spiel about the call being recorded for training and quality purposes, just say " that's Ok because I am recording it myself so i can give a copy of the call to the Federal Police"...even if you are not recording it. They will likely go away. AND...AND...AND BLOCK THE NUMBER!!!!!

They left a voice message from a typical Australian middle aged ladies accent and simply said "this is an important call so please call back"
As someone who works in a call centre, this doesn't fly and provides no detail or where they are from which is a requirement. Definitely a scam.
