Everyone, it's a third party telemarleting company who are contracted to Optus. Just got through and explained i do not want to speak to them hence i have ignored their 10 calls i have recieved just about every single working day for the past 2 weeks! Register yourself on https://www.donotcall.gov.au/ and you wont have these issues again!!!!

This is an old trick used by marketers.
The calls are generated through an automated system housed overseas and diverted through a local number. That's why there is no answer if you call. The system keeps calling a list of numbers until they are answered. You may notice a small delay when answering these calls. That is the auto system transferring an answered call to a person, often to the private phone of a person working on a commission basis. Sophisticated and cheap to operate.
If this is only happening to Optus customers then whoever they are have access or a copy of the Optus customer database. They may be using other numbers, each for a different spiel.
One possible way of getting off the auto system's list is to answer the call and immediately press and hold a number on your phone until the call drops out. This can tell the auto system that your number is no longer in service and is marked "Not to call".
Unfortunately the No Call register only applies to Australian based organizations.
Moving providers will not stop the calls unless you get a new number and even then there is no guarantee that will stop these types of calls.

These people keep calling- 3 calls so far, one late at night that woke up my sleeping baby, how rude. If I answer they hang up, rang back and got a telemarketing answering machine for 'optus related products'.

This number has been calling every single day. It is very annoying. Whenever I pick up my phone, there will be no one saying anything and then after a few moment the call will be disconnected.

This is like people who has nothing to do, has so many times to call other people but did not say anything.

Whoever you are please STOP CALLING and GET A LIFE!!!

nuiscance, tried calling back to see who is calling and just sat on hold. I see some people mention 'blocking' nuiscance numbers, how do you do this....the best I know is to program the # in2 my phones' address book & when it rings I ignore it.

Bought pre-paid phone for my elderly mother. No one has the number. Mum returns the phone to me saying optus are calling her in the middle of the night. Checked phone after a few days, see multiple missed calls from this number. Called back (with 1831 prefix to hide number) and voice message says it is "Call Active" and mentions optus and says do go on the do not call register if you want, or to contact optus to disable marketing calls.

Absolute rubish. Bad enough convincing mum she needs the phone for safety when shopping and in case she falls over at home, and teaching her how to use it, and gets bothered by this junk.

It`s starting to become a Joke everyday around 6 to 7pm on my mobile I never signed up for any listing seriously people if they got your number they have your name date of birth address what's the first thing you do when you by a mobile phone you need to show them your drivers licence you even use your Credit card on your phone to recharge so operating completely within the law in what they are doing is right what about Every person has a right to be left alone—this is called the right of privacy. You need a release to use a living person’s name or image in a manner that constitutes an invasion of the person’s right to privacy. Releases are vital because the person whose privacy you invade can sue you for monetary damages. Generally, invasion of privacy isn’t an issue if an individual is deceased, thats why there set up overseas .
