It is a scam. I phoned the university of Melbourne and was surprised that they don't exist.

I've just contacted the University of Melbourne to ask them about this phone call. I believe this is a scam. The survey is supposed to be about the effects on people during covid 19 and job retention or job loss. From what I understand, some students have reported that they received an email about this and reported it to the university. Before I phoned and checked this out, I received a series of phone messages, and when I did receive a phone call, the survey began but I found that the person who was doing the survey was becoming increasingly rude, so rude that I hung up. I phoned the number back to suggest that when speaking to people about a sensitive subject like job loss that the person doing the survey could show some patience and empathy, and left that message because no one at the Social Research "team" was there - only a voice message. That is when I googled the phone number and found this website where people were posting, and that is when I phoned the university to alert them that I've received this. The university doesn't have a social research team that is doing surveys. Don't start answering questions, if you suspect something, hang up, block the number, call the university to report it (and your local police) or whoever else they say they are. It is sad that when older people in Australia and around the world are dying, and so many are suffering, that there are scammers out there who are ready to use this situation to prey on people. How can they justify that to themselves?

Another piece of filth scammer trying to skim social information from me probably for the purposes of initiating a scam or selling the information to others for that purpose.

DO NOT ENGAGE WITH THESE PEOPLE. They have no respect for the do not call register. REPORT THEM.

As per the other fellow commentators; it's a scam - phishing for information.
The caller suggests it's a survey, and when I pressed them for more details I could hear the hesitation in their voice and tried to divert the question. The conversation started to get weird and less professional, until it became close to rude....OK game on! I started arguing and the person got rude....Righto time to play hard! So my acid tongue blurted out some choice clangers/obscenities and a situation involving the person's head and directions to insert this part into another "back-end" part of their body. Strange that they hung up without finishing the survey.....PLEASE call back.......!!!

Caller: Got a text message saying you will receive a phone all in a few days from social research policing services to complete a survey about how safe my area is. Then I recurved the call from this number a few days later, I didn’t answer.

Don’t answer to this number, it’s a scam

Phone rang out then no message was left, if they were legitimate wouldn't you think they would leave a voice message, a time waster

I received the exact same text message on one mobile number. Now I've received a miss call on my other mobile from the same people. I just presumed it was a scam.

Received this message: This is a message on behalf of all Australian policing agencies. The Social Research Centre will call you in the coming days to see if you can take part in an important study on safety and crime in your area. Reply '1' if you are 18+,'2' if you are under 18 or '3' to opt out.
