Someone wanting to know if I had the in-app device to track my power usage...apparently, it's the free device from the government..
used my maiden name so they're digging deep for contact numbers.

When I worked for the ATO we were instructed to give the main switchboard number and extension number if someone queried our legitimacy. Best thing to do with any dodgy call is to ask for their switchboard number, name and extension number and say you'll give them a call. I think that might result in a hang-up and removal from their database.

Offering a free powerpal. he knew my name, then straight away without introducing himself asked if I already had one, when I asked if that was any of his business, he said yes, I said no its not. He then told me to go F myself. Very friendly guy. LOL

Said they were from the Vic Govt, and I asked where from Vic Govt (I work in Vic Govt but didn’t tell him), he kept repeating Vic Govt and got annoyed at me asking which agency - “how do you not know know the Vic Govt is? You live in Vic don’t you?” Hung up on him lmao

These are not energy providers. I suspect they are not even in Australia. If they were working for an energy provider they would be in line for millions in fines for stating "I am calling on behalf of the Victorian Government" or "I am calling on behalf of the Australian Government". Any legitimate Energy Efficiency or Energy retailer related business knows this and will avoid making these statements at all costs.

Caller: Green World Services ???

Said Hi and used my name. Introduced himself as Eddie calling on behalf of Victorian Government to find out if I have received my free in-home display energy monitor. As this was the second call today, the first from (03) 7067 5104, I played along and said No. He asked if 3### was my postcode. I replied No. I asked where he was calling from and in a muffled voice I think he responded with Green World Services. I asked where he got my details. He replied the National database register and asked for my correct postcode. I advised that I work in the energy efficiency sector and could arrange this product for myself if I wanted one and politely asked to be removed from their database. His response “First you have to give me your correct postcode so I can update the system, then I can remove you from the call register”. I replied I do not have to give you anything. He was insistent that I do need to provide this information. Anyhow, this line of discussion continued for another 3 minutes with me pointing out that once he has my name (which he obliviously has), my phone number (he also has), if I give him my postcode he can pinpoint exactly whom he has called which is a privacy concern. He continued to debate this, trying the whole time to get more information from me. Eventually I hung up. As somebody working in the energy efficiency industry, I can assure everyone that the Victorian Government DO NOT CONDONE anybody calling you and stating they are calling on behalf of the Victorian Government. This is a huge No-No for anyone legitimately in the Energy Efficiency business as the Victorian Government crack down hard on anyone who does this with huge fines and expulsion from participating in the program. Do not give these people any information. If they are a genuine Victorian Energy Upgrades (VEU) program related company, they will know that they are not allowed to state this.

hung up as soon as I answered. The interesting thing to note that about 3 hours earlier I received a call from (03) 7067 5104 who were asking me about some government electrical scam. I have reported this number as well. I don't understand why they hang up
