According to NAB's web page - the caller ID can be spoofed (fake).
LATEST SECURITY ALERTS November 2022: NAB-branded SMS phishing and calls We’re aware of a current scam impacting NAB customers, where they receive phone calls and text messages pretending to be from NAB. These calls and messages might appear to come from NAB’s phone numbers, or in the same thread as legitimate messages from NAB.
This is called ‘spoofing’, where the scammer uses software to ‘spoof’ (or copy) the NAB number or sender name so that it appears in your phone as coming from NAB. Spoofing – or caller line identification overstamping – allows the cybercriminal to make the caller ID or SMS sender name show something different to what’s really being used.
The scammer will claim they are from NAB and there is an issue with your accounts, and that your money has to be transferred to a new account to keep it safe.
This is not a sign that NAB systems have been breached in any way– it simply means a criminal has spoofed our number and is impersonating us. Please see two examples below.

Caller: NAB Fraud Assist Not a Scam it is NAB, I rang the Direct Number to NAB to verify, it was legit, had someone fraudulently use my credit card, so we cancelled it and they issued a new card. So many scammers out there, ring the bank direct and and follow through for peace of mind.

Caller: NAB Fraud Assist I setup a new Mobile & tried to transfer funds. NAB blocked my access as they thought it was fraud. Called number & seems legit. Best to go into Bank if you're unsure. I didn't give them any info but it's safe to call to listen to the NAB Fraud options (all is transparent & legit).
