So I get an overseas call from an indian girl, talking to me about taxation and asking for all sorts of personal information: income, partners income, what occupations etc.
Immediately I smell a foul stench, so after a bit of a discussion I ntice shes setting me up to have a 'free consulation' with another marketing person.... Aparently there is some Australian taxation thingo that allows you to save over half the tax and put it back into your super??? First Ive heard of it and funny being told about it from a stranger from overseas.
I asked what company she represented, apparently its called: Australian Information Research Group
Sounds extremely dodgy.... Im on the do not call register and she reckons she got my number from the white pages!

This number called me a few weeks ago saying they were conducting a survey and started asking questions about my income, home, insurance & work. I told them that I am not interested but since then they have been ringing me everyday but I had not been at home until today. I told them to stop calling me. They must have got my name and address out of the phone book as she knew it. If this was happening on the street it would be harassment so why do we have to have our home lives interupted by these people, dont they have lives themselves.

I've just been called by these people as well. They asked the usual personal details occupation age house price, who owns, - when asked how much i earn i wanted to know who they are, what do they do with the info, and then got passed to 3 other "supervisors" who asked the same questions. And offered tax savings - I said unless they were the ATO they couldn't lawfully offer me this. I said several times I didn't want to talk to them but they kept asking more questions so I hung up. SO DODGY. - BEWARE

I just got off the phone from them too. They have rung 6 times in the last two days. I have hung up after saying not interested 4 times with a male indian sounding voice the first 2 times. Today Indian sounding female who would not answer my questions about the company and who they were, even when i explained to take me off the database list. she would not take vague answers from me and kept on repeating the questions- asking about income, mortgage repayments, how much i'd paid off etc etc.

Same thing for me. Australian Information Research Group. Male Indian accent. Guy turned me over to his supervisor when I asked too many questions. Tried to get information out of me re earnings, taxation etc and tried to book a meeting. Said I was not interested. Definitely a scam of some kind I'd say.

a gentleman from overseas called me from this number ofering me a holiday package for Ultimate Freestays. It was very convincing, they even have a website advertising their holiday packages, listing all participating hotels, hotel pictures and details etc. However, being a cautious person, before buying the deal I called 3 hotels on the Melbourne list to double check they were participating and they had never heard of these offers, or of the company. Very glad I double checked. I thought it was too good to be true!!! BE CAUTIOUS. IM GOING TO TELL SCAM WATCH TOO JUST INCASE.

I got a call from them saying they were conducting reasearch on home owners. They asked about employment status, age, bla bla. Few weeks later they phoned saying they believe I would benifit from some tax saving information. The catch was they wanted a personal appointment and could not post me the information as it has been misued in the past?

Once I have the information my accountant could review it and I could then decide if I wish to use it or not. Asked them what 'using' the information meant and what they required of me but they were very vague in their answer.

Sounds like like a dodgy con to me.

They called and claimed to be 'Australian Information Research Group' They then proceeded to tell me they were not going to sell me anything but were conducting a survey. I played along. After they got answers to their questions they proceeded to confirm my name etc (which I had not given them) they had a bogus name it went like this.... "so your name is David, am I correct"... "NO - Im a woman!" "and you live at such and such, am I correct?" "no" "And you are a carer and your husband is a carpenter..." "no". "Just a second while I pass you to my supervisor" Then the supervisor tries to give me some 'free' tax minimisation information... Anyhoo, then I hung up. Then I rang back and said I'd had a missed call and could they tell me what company this is. They then said "Ultimate Free Stays & Elite Getaways".

Unbelievable!!!
