Caller: phone numbere given in email from HSBC GENUINE. Email notifying of suspicious activity on bank account requesting that I call this number to sort it out. I could not verify the number as genuine on their website so I called HSBC on their 1300 number as listed on their internet banking site and verified that the email was genuine.

Caller: HSBC Fraud Team Received a call from this number claiming to be HSBC Fraud Team. I had recently tried to send a payment internationally, and it came up with an error page, which I screenshotted. The phone number on the screenshot from the HSBC AU app was the same number that called me. 61 (02) 9005 8525. I rang them back after also googling to check if it was legit. The Indian lady asked me to verify it was my account using my BSB, account number and then full name, DOB, Mailing address, and the last 4 digits of my passport number (ID verification). She also asked me to give an example of a recent transaction I had carried out, i.e. who to & what amount (for me it gave groceries). She then confirmed with me the account & amount I was trying to send money to and asked if it was a genuine transaction which it was. Genuine number. She never asked for passwords or passcodes etc.

Caller: HSBC Got an email for a suspicious transaction made on my credit card. The last four digit matches my HSBC card and the transaction was indeed made by me so it’s genuine. After calling, my card was unblocked. If you don’t believe the number then call the HSBC number on their website instead.
