I had a similar experience while trying to access a weather site. Suddenly, all bells and whistles ringing out and three separate layers of windows saying my computer had been compromised and I needed to call Microsoft on (02) 8660 1377. The message warned me not to turn off my computer or all information would be accessed and the computer locked down. My call was answered by an Indian-sounding woman, clearly in a call centre. I was told to turn off my computer and hit the MS Symbol and "r" key together, which opened "Run". then she told me to type a Code which opened a page so "a microsoft engineer could access the computer". That's when I baulked and said I didn't trust the process because I'd run a random number and she could be anyone. She tried to reassure me that the connection was legitimate. Then when I queried again she said I would lose my place in the queue. Next she hung up on me. I think I was pretty lucky. But it's a very scary, helpless feeling when the PC locks up and the alarms keep blaring out. It's designed to make you panic. However, If this happens to you, simply TURN OFF YOUR COMPUTER, THEN RESTART. I immediately ran a thorough Malware screen using my Security Software, TotalAV, which cleaned out the Cookies and other suspicious items. I hope this helps.

my computer just sent me this alarm. I called the number reluctantly and he didn't know what I was talking about then it clicked. He told me my address had been hacked by some os country and I should close the computer and get back to him so he could tell me what to do. I was worried so I hung up. Is my computer compromised am I in trouble?

A payment to a company called Jaytech Nominees was charged to my credit card. I didn’t have a receipt for this and I’ve recently travelled on holidays so I googled the company name. As soon as I pressed ‘search’, I got the ‘computer is blocked’ message and the call this number for Microsoft help. I couldn’t get rid of the message or close the browser down. From the web-address, the web page with the message was registered in Gambia so it clearly wasn’t Microsoft in Australia or elsewhere. My alternative browser wasn’t blocked so I searched for advice and found this site. Using ‘control/alt/delete’ closed the browser and the task.
PS I think Jaytech is also a scam - the company address is given as one state in Australia, the phone number is in another, the credit card said the purchase was made via a business in a third. I’m calling the bank next.

I'm a computer tech and one of my customers got the your computer is blocked message. A compromised web page downloads a web page to your downloads folder. It says your computer has been blocked. So I called 28 8660 1377 to see what happens. You are connected to an Indian sounding call centre who claim to be Microsoft tech support. They will try to get you to install anydesk software so they can remotely control your computer. By playing dumb I managed to keep them hanging on for nearly 1/2 an hour before she finally asked me if I was trying to waste her time. I pointed out that the real Microsoft use Quick Assist and she swore at me and told her never to call again.

Caller: Nobody. This number was displayed on my computer.

This number was displayed on my computer when I tried to follow a link which suddenly brought up several layers of messages and warnings along with whistles, saying that my computer was infected, not to turn it off and that I was in danger of loosing all my data. It recommending that I call this number.
However the solution was simple; I simply 'clicked the X in the top tab for the page/window that I was in and it all went away.

Elderly Mother's computer locked up with all the same windows as previously described. Not being computer literate, she rang me. Looked up the number in here and found this. Wasn't able to think straight to start with as I had had a bad nights sleep. Thankfully I thought of Reverse Aust. and it led me to this. Now know what to do to help her.

Caller: Scam phone number pretending to be Microsoft IT Agent

Same issue - loud beeping alarm, called the number, went through same process of windows key and R - run window. They ran event viewer, then said they were going to secure email, facebook, even internet banking. Tone changed once they started running scans and providing ID numbers, then when I said I would get our IT on the line the tone changed again, getting defiant - you called us, our terms and conditions don't allow us to talk to 3rd parties.
This is a very sophisticated scam. Advised employee ID and Name (Shane Dawson) Finally after screen going blank and other things happening, they wanted me to send an email as the command module said our software was corrupted and we would get a refund. $230. Very suspicious. Called our IT and did a search on the phone number and realised it was a scam. They got some access to laptop. Our IT rep saw them using mouse although their scan showed nothing was uploaded. Yes, very scary. Do not call a random number and give any details. They also wanted to know if I was using other computers.

Total scam.
Computer locked from clicking on a link that came up in a google search engine. Alarms beeping loudly. Called the number, supposedly a Microsoft help desk but the as soon as I could see that my PC was able to use the microsoft button, i realised it wasn't locked. Closed down the PC and turned it back on. All good.

Its a scam, they only want access to your PC.

My wife was browsing baby clothes sites when she got these ominous computer error messages, ominous beeping and apparently locked keyboard. I freaked out and rang the so called microsoft support number and got an indian claiming to be microsoft support. He started asking me do to something which appeared to be trying for me to give remote control to him when i started to get suspicious and asked him to prove who he was. He started to get defensive and i got more suspicious. Isaid i would ring him back and hung up, I consulted my tech savy son and he closed down the popup.

The computer was fine. We ran anti virus and there were on issues.

I dont know what they were up to but it wasnt good. Dont be fooled!

These people are getting more and more devious.

Phone number (02) 8660 1377. Please be careful, this number is related to a scam. You will get a click thru on your PC saying you have a Microsoft issue, and to call this number. Microsoft do not contact you like this. Do not call. Do not provide any details. Close down your PC and Browser.
