Received an unexpected call from this number, which sounded like it was from an overseas call centre. That made me suspicious immediately. Then they said they were from UPS and were "calling to collect customs duties". I was expecting a parcel from overseas from UPS, but I thought it might be a scam, so I hung up. Looked up UPS's number (02) 8313 3030 is an outbound only number), called them back to confirm, and it was actually UPS that had called me.

Yes this is definitely UPS. (02) 8313 3030 is their outbound number. You can't return the call on that number. The return call number for UPS is 131 877. If you are paying duty on goods from UPS (which is what they rang me for) then you select Option 4.

Not unknown. It's a non-reply # from UPS. You need to call back on their listed #. All good.

Got a text that reads
UPS: Your shipment, 1Z1EW40667965- - - - -, has incurred import fees of AUD 239.32. You may pay through BPAY and use Biller Code: 49676, Ref# 20000484- - - - - or through EFT, Acct Name: UPS Pty Ltd, BSB#: 242000, Acct #: 105109008, Citibank and email your payment receipt to cjillgenevieve @ ups.com
Then got a call from this number
Indian voice so I am wary, the UPS website doesn’t say anything about me having to pay import fees so I’ll wait till next week to pay it if I have to

They probably do. Did you buy something expensive from the States? It would probably mean that the seller shipped it with UPS. Same thing happened to me, just make sure you get it done by EFT or B Pay, not credit card over the phone (which incures a 1% surcharge anyways). If anyone wants you to pay for duty on anything, regardless of the company, just insist that you pay by other means, not by credit card over the phone, even if you already have the item.

Legitimate UPS number.
It is their outbound number. Also got a text message for a consignment/package coming from over seas where I needed to pay import/customs duties. The value of the goods was above the $1,000 threshold for low value imports and had to pay customs duties and GST.

All legitimate, no concerns.

Legitimate caller calling to collect GST and charges for overseas freight inbound to Australia . I opted to get them to email me the invoice rather than pay by card over the phone. Email came through - fully checked out and you can call UPS PTY LTD ☎ 131 877 option 4 as an alternate to triple check. ALL GOOD

I received a few missed calls from this number, as well as SMS texts which said I had a parcel I needed to pay import fees for. I am extremely weary, as I've received countless scam texts with similar messages, requesting payments. However, I looked into the number, which is a call out number from UPS - they even say they can be reached on UPS' number 131 877. The tracking number also matched my parcel I expected from the USA, which was for $2k+ and did incur import taxes. I paid via the bank details provided (also matching UPS' account details) - not by credit card online/phone. I requested a tax invoice after payment, from UPS, and they promptly sent it - their email addresses and email signatures all matching the real UPS details. My shipment was updated from "delayed" to "shipped" after the payment was made. This is legitimate.

NOT A SCAM - legitimate call for import fees. If you have ordered something from overseas just wait for them to call you back and ask them to send the invoice to your email address. UPS tracking released the package for delivery as soon as the import fee was paid.

Still trying the same scam, they obviously know there are packages coming from UPS, so somewhere there is a leak and they tried to get $286 dollars out of me. Nice try but its paper products and I've ordered from the same company before and never been charged clearance fees.
