Claiming to be from AGL service, asked to confirm if is was xxxxxx, which I said yes. Proceeded to say that the special rates on offer for energy is better than what I'm on. Had trouble with voice dropping out and noise in background. Asked her to email me with details. Said she would but nothing comes through.

Caller: AGL (maybe?) I had a missed call from this number on August 28, 2023. Caller had hung up and didn't leave a message, which immediately raised a red flag with me. I'm always suspicious of unknown or unrecognized numbers, either from cell phones or landlines, so I wouldn't answer anyway. If I want to check prices or change my providers for any service, I'll bloody well contact them myself. I really resent telemarketers, people trying to sell you something unsolicited, or spammers/scammers. A koala can't be too careful these days!

Caller: AGL Called me offering a better plan. Wanted my email and DOB to confirm identity. Said you tell me so I know you are real. Sounds like a phishing expedition to steal my identity.

I have received unsolicited phone calls to update my AGL "plan". The caller has an indian accent and called from (02) 8229 5702. He fumbled his script and would not agree to email me the info in order to take advantage of the 'new plan on offer', saying it was only available via speaking with him. I then hung up.

Caller: AGL retention Dep. This is a legitimate number from AGL retention Dep. They did not ask for anything, it was a courtesy call to long term customers informing of the application of Gov. energy rule changes to billing. I confirmed this by ringing AGL directly afterwards. It was very unusual however legitimate.

Caller: (02) 8229 5702 I received a call from the same number, and she repeated the same thing — that there was a cheaper option from AGL and asked if I wanted to switch. I told her to send me an email with the details. Instead, she sent me a text message claiming to be from AGL:
“Hi, are you trying to access information or make changes to your account? Help us confirm it's you. Only share this code XXX with us.”
She then said, “We’ve sent you a code to prove that we are from AGL.” I asked her again to send me the information via email, and then I ended the call, saying, “Thank you for your time.”
It felt very creepy. This issue seems to have been happening for about two years now from the same number: 0282295702. I suspect this could potentially be someone misusing internal information, which could escalate into a bigger issue. Definitely looks like scammers.

Caller: Suspected Spam google phone suggested spam, I answered and it was blank/silent. It is like they are trying to quickly call, then drop the call so it shows as missed, and then I ring back. Blocked.

this is apparently an AGL "customer retention call". After they told me i could only get a rebate on my bill if i gave them details on the phone i hung up without providing them anything. I then called agl on their number from the website and they confirmed that it was a real call that they had made.
TBH i would still hang up on this number just to be safe. You can always call back agl from the number on their website. If they wanted to retain customers how about providing a great website that allowed me to compare plans or gave offers there.
