Scam saying tax file number had been suspended and a case had been opened against me. To press 1 to talk to legal department. SCAM!!!!!

They call it your Tax ID number which is not what it is called in Australia also calling from 0400 355 622

Scam call, do not waste time and block it

If you can be bothered. Please consider burning up their time.
Step 1 - act concerned and alarmed that the ATO is chasing you.
Step 2 - Give them a name, Any name you can think of. You could even try Mahatma Cote. Give them a tax file number and a postcode.
Step 3 - They will advise they have confirmed your ID. Absolute miracle that you were able to accurately guess the name, Tax File Number and postcode of another person.
Step 4 - Listen to their story. It runs along the lines of, somebody is using your Tax File Number to open bank accounts. Those accounts have been linked to drug dealing and money laundering.
Step 5 - They will request your bank details in order to confirm which accounts you opened, and which have been opened by others.
Step 6 - Suggest whatever you want as alternate ways of catching the naughty people that are using your Tax File Number. Given they had told me the naughty people were from New South Wales, I suggested it would be a good idea to kill everybody in New South Wales. Surprisingly, that caused the caller to protest that such action would target innocent people. I asked. How innocent are they? They live in the same State as the criminals. Surely, they should be considered guilty be virtue of their proximity to the criminals.
Step 7 - They cut off the call. Having lost at least 10 minutes of their day with me. Which is 10 minutes less time they had available to run this scam.

Why shouldn't police investigate and put them all in the prison. I am sick of getting this scam in Australia.

Australian dept of legal services says press 1 to hear your legal case details or be arrested... this is the 2nd call I have received today. I didn't answer either call, but heard msg on voicemail... other number they called from was 0437 451 035... saying I my TFN has been suspended. whaaaaa

I called this number back on a different mobile and got a message saying "this number is out of service" ??? total SCAM

Pretty much what others got, "Australian dept of legal services says press 1 to hear your legal case details or be arrested". Got 2 calls today from this number(02) 7908 4176).

Same as above, automated message saying they were from services australia etc etc SCAM

Scam. Have been called 3 times now stating that I was going to be arrested and my tax file number suspended

Tax Scam

Ran and didn't leave a message. I refuse to answer calls from unknown numbers, especially when they don't leave a voice message as to what the call is about.
As expected, and confirmed by the posts on this discussion, it is a scam call.

Why the Police and Telstra do not do something about it?
